Best Spas in Botswana

Botswana safari lodges with spas, massages, gyms and yoga

A safari day in Botswana starts early. By late morning you are back in camp after a game drive or mokoro trip, and the long midday pause is when a spa comes into its own: a massage on your deck, a facial in a treatment room set among the trees, or an hour in the gym with the floodplain in view.

This collection brings together the Botswana camps and lodges where wellness is part of the stay, from full spas to a skilled therapist who comes to your tent. You'll find them in the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve, in the Linyanti and Khwai, in Savuti and above the Chobe River near Kasane.

What to expect varies from camp to camp:

  • Full spa facilities – Chobe Chilwero has Vichy showers, hydrotherapy and a treatment room raised into the treetops; The Sanctuary at Mombo adds a sauna, ice bath and meditation cocoons.
  • Treatment rooms – Jao's two circular rooms are surrounded by water ponds, Xigera has two treatment rooms, and Savute Elephant Lodge has a spa tent at the edge of camp.
  • In-suite treatments – at Kings Pool, Little Mombo, Machaba, Selinda and Gomoti Plains, massages come to your tent or verandah.
  • Gyms and yoga – Mombo (shared with Little Mombo), DumaTau, Jao, Xigera and Tawana all have gyms, and Xigera offers yoga sessions.

Treatments are booked in camp and usually fit into the gap between morning and afternoon activities, so you lose nothing on the wildlife side. Tell us which matters most – a full spa, a gym or simply a massage on the deck – and we'll build it into your Botswana safari. We've been planning African safaris since 1999.

Botswana safari lodges with a spa

Chobe Chilwero Lodge

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Set on a rise above the Chobe River near Kasane, Chilwero has a full spa: Vichy showers, hydrotherapy, an indoor spa bath, a plunge pool, a relaxation area and private treatment rooms, one raised into the treetops. Treatments use Africology and Thalgo products.

DumaTau Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

DumaTau's Osprey Retreat wellness centre sits on the Osprey Lagoon in the Linyanti, with a spa treatment room, a gym and a lap pool. Elephants often wade across the lagoon in front of camp – quite a view from a sun lounger between activities.

Gomoti Plains Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Choose Gomoti Plains for low-key pampering. The camp lies in the Gomoti River system, in a community-run concession in the south-eastern Okavango Delta. Its spa therapist brings massages and facials to your tent, and there's a plunge pool in the main camp.

Jao Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Jao's spa has two circular treatment rooms surrounded by water ponds, along a shady walkway from the main camp on the Jao Reserve in the Okavango Delta. Expect massages, facials and botanical treatments, plus a gym and a pool projecting over the floodplain.

Kings Pool Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Kings Pool, in the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, keeps its spa menu short and personal. Every treatment is delivered in your suite or on your verandah, with the bush providing the soundtrack instead of piped spa music.

Little Mombo Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Little Mombo has its own lounge, dining area and plunge pool. It shares Mombo's spa and gym, within walking distance on the same stretch of Chief's Island in the Moremi Game Reserve. Treatments can also be arranged in your suite.

Machaba Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Machaba stands on the Khwai River, on the edge of the Moremi Game Reserve, and runs a small spa menu with a personal touch. Treatments and massages come to your tented suite or verandah, to the sounds of the river.

Mombo Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Book a sauna and an ice bath at Mombo, then cool off in the lap pool. The Sanctuary has treatment rooms, a gym, meditation cocoons and a lap pool looking over the floodplains, and every suite has yoga mats and weights.

Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Nxabega's massage sala sits in a quiet corner of camp, away from the main area, so treatments feel completely private. The camp lies in a concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, and massages can also be set up on your tent's own deck.

Sanctuary Chiefs Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Chief's Camp, on Chief's Island inside the Moremi Game Reserve, has a dedicated treatment room where facials and massages use Thalgo and Africology products. A small, well-equipped gym means your fitness routine needn't lapse on safari.

Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Sandibe's massage sala and compact gym sit near the central guest area. Massages and therapies are offered in the sala or on your suite's verandah, so you can choose between a treatment room and your own deck.

Savute Elephant Lodge

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Savute Elephant Lodge, on the Savuti Channel in Chobe National Park, has a spa tent tucked into a secluded spot at the edge of camp and a room for yoga. Between treatments, the waterhole hide puts you at eye level with drinking elephants.

Selinda Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Selinda sits on the Selinda Spillway in the private Selinda Reserve, between the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti. A small team of therapists gives massages and treatments in the privacy of your suite.

Tawana Camp

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Tawana, a Natural Selection camp on the Gomoti River in south-eastern Moremi, brings spa treatments to your suite, where yoga mats and weights are already waiting. A gym, a 16-metre lap pool and each suite's own plunge pool complete the picture.

Xigera Safari Lodge

Rates form part of a safari itinerary

Xigera Safari Lodge, in the western Moremi Game Reserve, has two spa treatment rooms for body and facial treatments, a gym, a pool and yoga sessions. The wellness programme focuses on mindfulness and holistic healing.

Spa safaris in Botswana – your questions answered

Which Botswana safari lodges have a spa?

Spa treatments are offered at camps right across northern Botswana. In the Okavango Delta and Moremi: Mombo, Little Mombo, Xigera, Jao, Sanctuary Chief's Camp, Gomoti Plains, Nxabega, Sandibe and Tawana. In the Linyanti: DumaTau, Kings Pool and Selinda. Add Machaba in Khwai, Savute Elephant Lodge in Savuti and Chobe Chilwero near Kasane.

Which camps have a full spa rather than in-room treatments?

Several have dedicated spa spaces. Chobe Chilwero has Vichy showers, hydrotherapy, an indoor spa bath and a treetop treatment room. The Sanctuary at Mombo adds a sauna, ice bath and meditation cocoons. Jao has two circular treatment rooms among water ponds, Xigera two treatment rooms, DumaTau its Osprey Retreat and Savute Elephant Lodge a spa tent.

Can I have a massage in my tent?

Yes – at many of these camps the therapist comes to you. Kings Pool, Little Mombo, Machaba, Selinda and Gomoti Plains offer treatments in your suite or tent, while Mombo, Nxabega and Sandibe can arrange massages on your private deck or verandah. It is a wonderfully unhurried way to spend the midday break.

Which Botswana safari lodges have a gym?

Mombo, DumaTau, Jao, Xigera, Tawana, Sandibe and Sanctuary Chief's Camp all have a gym, and Little Mombo guests share the one at Mombo. Mombo's gym looks out over the floodplains. DumaTau's sits within its Osprey Retreat wellness centre on the lagoon, and Tawana pairs its gym with a 16-metre lap pool.

Can I do yoga on safari in Botswana?

Yes, at a handful of camps. Xigera includes yoga sessions among its activities, and Savute Elephant Lodge has a room set aside for yoga. At Mombo and Tawana, yoga mats and weights are provided in every suite for your own practice. If yoga matters to you, tell us when planning.

When do spa treatments fit into a safari day?

Usually in the midday break. Game drives, walks and mokoro trips run early in the morning and again in the late afternoon, leaving several hours in camp around lunch. Most guests book a massage then, so a treatment rarely costs any time with the wildlife. You book with the camp manager or therapist on arrival.

Which spa products do Botswana safari lodges use?

It varies by camp. Chobe Chilwero and Sanctuary Chief's Camp use Thalgo and Africology. Mombo chooses locally produced products with a focus on sustainability. Jao's signature African Botanicals treatment combines a bath, an express facial and a massage. If you have sensitivities or a favourite brand, tell us and we'll check with the camp before you travel.
