Ethiopia Travel Guide
As a country, Ethiopia offers travellers an unparalleled historical and religious legacy like no other country in Sub-Sahara Africa.
Travel the Historic North of the country with its famed Rock-hewn Churches of Lalibela and religious sites of Axum including the St. Mary of Zion Church that hosts the "Ark of the Covenant". The north-west in addition also offers up the scenic Ethiopian Highlands and the Semien Mountains.
The cultural south of the country is where one comes across many of the famous tribes of Ethiopia including the Mursi, Hamer, Tsemai, Ari, Karo, Dassenech and Erbore people. Highlights in this region include the Omo Valley, Great Rift Valley and Lakes, Lake Chamo and the "crocodile market", Bale Mountains and of course not forgetting the Sof Omar Caves. The south also has some of the finest birding in Africa for those interested in our feathered friends.
For those that seek the extremes in life, there is the "Danakil Depression" in the far North-East. This is the lowest place in Africa and is home to the small town of Dallol that holds the record for the highest average annual temperature ever recorded, a whopping 34.6 degrees Celsius. the "Danakil Depression" is also home to just over 40% of Africa's volcanoes and this, of course, is the place where one can find those amazing sulphurous springs with their colourful crystalline formations.
All in All, Ethiopia might not be the first, second or even third choice destination that one travels to in Africa. But hand on heart, this country, her people, history and scenery will take your breath away.

- Getting To Ethiopia
Getting to Ethiopia is fairly straight forward and easy. Ethiopian Airlines offers many daily and weekly international flights into and out of Addis Ababa. Having recently flown with Ethiopian Airlines, we can recommend their services. Ethiopian Airlines is most often than not the better value option.
- Getting Around Ethiopia
Getting around the country is as easy as flying or being driven by your guide from destination to destination. We do however recommend that as the distances are so vast that one seriously consider the flying option, this will save you much time and the internal flights are not that expensive.
- Ethiopia Travel Health
An insurance policy when travelling to Ethiopia is a must, a policy that covers all things medical is very important. Healthcare in the country, particularly in the rural areas, is some way off what one would expect to find in other African countries and other developed countries World wide.
- Ethiopia Vaccinations
When traveling to or from Ethiopia one MUST be in possession of a YELLOW FEVER vaccination certificate not older than 10 years. We would also recommend a booster round of vaccinations for Diphtheria; Hepatitis A; Poliomyelitis; Tetanus; Typhoid - as one would for general World travel.
- Altitude Sickness
Please note that certain regions within Ethiopia that have altitudes of over 2000m above sea level. People who suffer from Altitude Sickness or Mountain Sickness please take note of this fact. Axum = 2100m, Lalibela = 2600m, Gondar = 2150m, Addis Ababa = 2400m.
