These are the Zambian lodges and camps we'd send a honeymoon couple to: small, intimate places where the bush comes right up to your deck and the evenings belong to the two of you.
Privacy is what sets them apart. Suites are spread out along the river, many with their own plunge pool, and the baths are placed for the view – sunken tubs looking over the Luangwa at Luangwa River Camp, clawfoot baths in the open air at the Chongwe River Suites, a freestanding tub on the deck of Mukambi's safari tents. At Sausage Tree and Potato Bush, every stay comes with a private guide, so the game drives, boat trips and canoe outings are yours alone.
The collection covers four very different corners of Zambia:
- Lower Zambezi – river camps looking across the Zambezi to Zimbabwe's Mana Pools, with canoeing and boat trips as well as game drives.
- South Luangwa – camps on the Luangwa River and its oxbow lagoons, for walking safaris and game drives.
- Kafue – Zambia's oldest and largest national park, from the banks of the Kafue River to the open Busanga Plains.
- Victoria Falls – riverside lodges and an island camp on the Zambian side of the Zambezi, upstream of the falls – a lovely way to finish a bush honeymoon.

Anabezi Luxury Tented Camp

Anabezi sits on the Zambezi in the eastern Lower Zambezi National Park, away from other camps. Each tented suite has a raised deck and private plunge pool over the floodplain, where elephants graze – perfect for sundowners and dinner for two.
Busanga Plains Camp

Just four tents with open-air bathrooms on a tree island in the Busanga Plains, in the far north of Kafue National Park. A sister camp to Mukambi and Fig Tree, it pairs easily with a riverside stay for a honeymoon of two halves.
Chiawa Camp

The first camp in the Lower Zambezi National Park, opened by the Cumings family in 1989 and still run by them. Meru-style tents face the Zambezi, and days move between game drives, walks, canoeing and boat trips on the river.
Chinzombo Safari Camp

On the Luangwa River opposite South Luangwa National Park, every Chinzombo villa has its own deck and plunge pool. Treatments can come to your villa, yoga eases slow mornings, and the privacy makes it a natural honeymoon choice.
Chongwe River Camp

Under ana trees where the Chongwe meets the Zambezi, on the park's western boundary. Each tent has a private verandah facing the river, elephants wander through camp, and days mix game drives, walks, canoeing and riverbank dinners.
Chongwe River Suites

Two private suites set apart from Chongwe River Camp. The one-bedroom Cassia Suite is made for two: canopied lounge, outdoor clawfoot bath, plunge pool facing the river, fire pit and your own butler – with dinner in your suite.
Luangwa River Camp

Just five bush suites under an ebony grove on the Luangwa, across the river from South Luangwa National Park. Sunken baths look out to the river, dinners are served privately for each couple, and a short boat trip takes you into the park.
Mukambi Safari Lodge

On the banks of the Kafue River. Book one of Mukambi's luxury safari tents – raised on stilts, with a private deck over the river and a freestanding bath outside. Boat trips, game drives and walks fill the days.
Nkwali Camp

On Robin Pope's private land across the Luangwa from the park. Open-fronted thatched chalets, open-air bathrooms and a bar built around a huge ebony tree – the spot for sundowners. A safari pontoon carries you into the park.
Nsefu Camp

The oldest safari camp in South Luangwa, built in 1951 on a bend of the Luangwa in the quiet Nsefu Sector. Whitewashed rondavels face the river, and Robin Pope's guides lead game drives and walking safaris.
Potato Bush Camp

Sausage Tree's smaller sister, downstream on the Zambezi. Three suites and one family house, each with a plunge pool and river views. Private guiding comes with every stay, so canoe trips, cruises and game drives are just for two.

Shumba Camp

On a tree island in the middle of the Busanga Plains, in the far north of Kafue National Park. Six tents on wooden platforms look across the grasslands, there's a pool for the heat of the day, and dawn balloon flights drift over the plains.
Sindabezi Island Camp

An island in the Zambezi all to itself, reached by boat from the Livingstone side. Just five thatched chalets, one kept as a honeymoon chalet, run off-grid on solar power. Sunset cruises and Victoria Falls visits can be arranged.

Named after David Livingstone's companions, on the Zambezi upstream of Victoria Falls. Air-conditioned treehouse suites sit in the ebony canopy, each with a private deck over the water. Sundowner cruises and treatments in the riverside spa room round off the day.

Robin Pope's first camp, with the feel of a classic bush camp: large tents under a mahogany grove on a bend of the Luangwa, in the park's remote Nsefu Sector. Each tent has its own river view; days follow walks and game drives.

Do any Zambian camps have a dedicated honeymoon suite?
Yes – a few camps set a suite aside for couples. At the Chongwe River Suites in the Lower Zambezi, the one-bedroom Cassia Suite comes with its own butler, plunge pool, fire pit and outdoor clawfoot bath, and you can dine privately in the suite. Near Livingstone, Sindabezi Island Camp keeps one of its thatched chalets as a honeymoon chalet.
