Twelve tented suites on raised decks inside the Lower Zambezi National Park, near where the Mushika meets the Zambezi. Each has a private plunge pool, an indoor bath and an outdoor shower, and a boardwalk links them to two pool decks.
Chiawa Camp

The Cumings family opened Chiawa in 1989 as the first camp in the Lower Zambezi National Park, and they still run it. Eight Meru-style tents and a larger safari suite line the Zambezi, and the guiding carries decades of family pride.
Chinzombo Safari Camp

Two private suites where the Chongwe meets the Zambezi, on the park's western edge. The Cassia suits couples and the two-bedroom Albida suits families. Each has a clawfoot bath, a canopied lounge, a pool over the river, a fire pit and a dedicated butler.
Kafunta River Lodge

Eight thatched chalets and two luxury suites above a Luangwa floodplain, just outside South Luangwa National Park. A natural hot-spring tub sits beside the infinity pool. Sunset House offers three en-suite rooms, a pool and a chef for a private stay.

Puku Ridge Camp

Tented suites on a hillside inside South Luangwa National Park, overlooking the Kakumbi floodplain. The camp was rebuilt in 2019 with the Cumings family of Chiawa Camp, and it has a photographic hide at the waterhole in front of camp.

Seven Bedouin-style tented suites and the two-bedroom Kigelia House stand beneath sausage and mahogany trees inside the Lower Zambezi National Park. Every tent has its own muchinda (butler), and every party has its own guide, on land and on the river.

Six tents on wooden platforms on a tree island in the middle of Kafue's Busanga Plains, with a pool looking out over the grass. Shumba means lion, and balloon flights over the plains leave from camp.

A private island in the Zambezi upstream of Victoria Falls, reached by boat. It has just five thatched chalets, one of them a honeymoon chalet, and runs off-grid on solar power with the river on every side.

Which luxury lodges in Zambia have a private plunge pool?
Chinzombo's villas, Anabezi's tented suites and both Chongwe River Suites each have their own pool. Sausage Tree's two-bedroom Kigelia House has a pool of its own, and Chongwe River House has a private pool for the house party. Ask us when you plan, and we'll match the room to the pool you want.
Can I book a whole house for my family or group?
Yes. Chongwe River House is booked by one party at a time: four en-suite bedrooms for up to eight guests, with your own chef, guide, vehicle and boat. On the Luangwa, Kafunta's Sunset House works the same way, with three en-suite rooms, a private pool and a chef.
Are any Zambian safari lodges members of Relais & Châteaux?
Yes. Royal Chundu, on a private stretch of the Zambezi upstream of Victoria Falls, belongs to Relais & Châteaux, the association of independently owned hotels and restaurants. It pairs river suites with the kitchen and service standards that membership demands, and makes an elegant start or finish to a Zambia safari.
What kind of rooms do Zambia's luxury lodges have?
They vary more than you might expect. Chinzombo has open-fronted villas, Sausage Tree has Bedouin-style tents with a butler, and Chiawa has Meru-style tents. Old Mondoro has reed-and-canvas rooms and Kafunta has thatched chalets. The two Chongwe suites have canopied lounges. What they share is space, privacy and a view of the river.
Do the luxury camps offer private guiding?
