The Selous Game Reserve is an absolute massive reserve in the south of Tanzania that sprawls out over 50 000 km². To offer some perspective on the size, The Selous is larger than Switzerland (41,285 km²).
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Selous offers spectacular scenery and wildlife, including; lion, leopard, elephant, black rhino, buffalo (the "Big 5"), wild dog, hippo, crocodile, and numerous species of plains game. For birders, over 400 species have been recorded.
Depending on where one is staying within the reserve, game drives, walking, fishing, boating, and dedicated photographic safaris are available.
Just as a side note, because of the remoteness of the Selous (Nyerere National Park - same place), most transfers to the individual lodges and safari camps are by light aircraft; transfers by road are generally considered just too long.
We have selected a portfolio of the best Selous Lodges across various locations within the game reserve and surrounding concessions that all offer the finest wildlife experience available across most budget entry points.
The size of the below portfolio will increase over time as we include exciting accommodation options that we think will only add value to your Tanzania Safari itinerary.
