Madikwe Zebra Photo Gallery
Only one species of Zebra can be found in the Madikwe Game Reserve and that is the stock standard every day "Plains zebra" or otherwise known as the "Burchell's zebra".
In general, Zebra's are cannon fodder for lions, leopards and wild dogs and form a large part of their diet. Cheetahs can bring down smaller younger zebras.
Sightings of these beautiful creatures are fairly common when on game drives, zebras like hanging out with their best mates; wildebeests, giraffe and impala. So spot a giraffe (same goes for wildebeest and impala) and the likelihood that a zebra is around the corner is rather good.
I am taking a guess here, but I would say that zebras are in the top 3 most photographed animals in Africa - but like I said that is a guess and a guess because they are so cute.
Interesting fact; do you know why a zebra cannot/ is not ridden like a horse or donkey by humans? Quite simply their spine bone is not as strong as a horse or donkey.
And now for the classic Zebra joke;
Question: What do Michael Jackson and a Burchell's zebra have in common?
Answer: Neither can decide whether to be black or white!
