On a walking safari, guests will be led by experienced and professional game rangers through a wildlife area rich in wildlife including lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo as well as hyena, hippo, giraffe, zebra and a whole host of other wildlife.
In addition to walking safaris, Big 5 game drives and night drives are offered to allow guests to participate in a full spectrum of safari activities.
Reserve Information
The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve officially proclaimed a nature reserve in 1792 and covers a total area of 60 000 hectares. Home to incredible wildlife, birdlife and ecosystems including the "Big 5" as well as cheetah and wild dog.
The Klaserie is one of the lesser known wildlife destinations in the Greater Kruger area of South Africa, but all that is changing quickly as more and more guest are visiting the reserve and reporting back on incredible sightings and experiences.
Rare wildlife and birdlife sightings in the reserve include; white lion, African wild dog, honey badger, Southern ground hornbill and white-backed vulture to mention only a few.
Lodges in the reserve offer game drives but are more famed for their walking safari options.
Rooms and Suites
This Kruger Walking Camp offers guests a choice of 5 chalets and a treehouse in which to stay, which is an adventurous option for guests who want to spend a night in the wilderness.
Two of the chalets are family units, which have 2 adjoining bedrooms and room for 4 people in a double and twin beds. All rooms are of the same standard with ensuite bathrooms, mosquito nets, a clothing rack, bedside tables, solar-powered lamps, and bathroom toiletries.
Cuisine and Wine
Guests generally enjoy evening drinks and a traditional South African braaivleis (barbecue) cooked over the open fire.
There is a bar onsite complete with local beers, wine, soft drinks and spirits.
Lodge Facilities
The Greater Kruger area can get very hot in summer and thankfully the camp has a beautiful splash pool complete with decking and deck chairs. Often, elephants come to the pool and stick their trunks into the water to drink.
There is wireless internet connection at Africa on Foot to keep guests connected to the outside world, but to truly immerse yourself in the rustic bush experience, the camp is run on solar power, and there are ambient lanterns decorating camp.
Safari Activities
Each Walking Safari lasts about from 2-3 hours and begins with a comprehensive demonstration on how to behave when encountering animals. All Walking Safaris are led by qualified rangers who have had intensive specialised training in approaching dangerous wildlife.
In the evenings, guests are taken on a game drive, which brings you a lot closer to the big game. The night drives allow guests the opportunity to see the nocturnal animals not encountered during the day.
