Only The Best Safari Holidays to The Serengeti National Park
If you love adventure, wildlife and luxury all wrapped into one, then a Serengeti Safari is perfect! Rated as one of the most spectacular natural events on earth, the annual migration in Serengeti (some of the best game viewing in East Africa), where vast zebra and wildebeest herds move on mass across endless plains, is an opportunity not only for the carnivores but you as well to witness this truly spectacular event of life and death.
Tanzania's Serengeti National Park (A UNESCO World Heritage Site) is a popular safari destination on the African continent, easily in the top five within Africa. This is because it offers visitors the opportunity to witness one of the most spectacular natural events: the great migration. Every year, vast herds of migrating wildebeest, zebra and gazelles make their way across the vast plains of the Serengeti in a never-ending journey searching for food and water. The annual migration is an incredible sight, especially the wildebeest river crossings, something you won't want to miss!
If you're looking for an unforgettable safari experience, visiting the Serengeti National Park in Northern Tanzania will not go amiss. One can also combine a Serengeti safari with the Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, Mount Kilimanjaro, Ruaha National Park, and the Selous Game Reserve, and Indian Ocean highlights of Mafia Island and the exotic islands of Zanzibar and Pemba.

First, let us answer a few questions before showcasing our ten best Serengeti safaris, including the National Park and surrounding conservancies, as part of a safari itinerary.
When is the best time to visit the Serengeti National park?
Wildlife and birdlife sightings are excellent year-round, even if you visit an area outside the annual Serengeti migration. As a general rule of thumb, the zebra and wildebeest migration location determines whether a lodge or safari is in peak season or not (peak season, meaning costs are at their highest).
When is the best time to view the wildebeest migration on a Serengeti safari tour?
- November to December -> Eastern Serengeti
- January to March -> Southern Serengeti
- April to May -> Western Serengeti (the western corridor)
- June -> Grumeti Region (the western corridor)
- July -> Northern Serengeti
- (August to October -> Masai Mara Triangle in Kenya)
How to get to the Serengeti National Park?
An easy question to answer, there are two options, 1) a chartered or scheduled fly-in option, 2) by means of a road-going safari vehicle transfer. Transfers by road will, of course, be the option to look at if one is concerned about budgets. There are no right or wrong options; remember getting there is half the fun. At Uyaphi, we prefer road transfers as we get to see and experience more of the country.
What wildlife can be spotted on a Safari in the Serengeti?
An easy yet difficult question to answer. The best option for us is to list the wildlife one has the chance of spotting; Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Spotted Hyenas, Elephants, Buffalos, Giraffes, Hippos, Zebras, Wildebeest, Thomson's and Grant’s Gazelle, Impalas as well as Coke’s Hartebeest. The wildlife that is a little more difficult to spot includes Bat-eared foxes, Civets, Servals, Genets, African Wildcats, Patas Monkeys, and Black-And-White Colobus. +550 species of birdlife can also be spotted and photographed; birding is best on Serengeti safari tours that take place during the summer months.
What Serengeti Safari Tours and activities are available when in the National Park?
Here are some of the safari activities that you can enjoy when visiting the park:
- Game drives: Explore the Serengeti on a game drive and see some of Africa's most iconic wildlife, including lions, elephants, buffalo as well as the famous wildebeest migration and migrating herds of zebra.
- Walking safaris: Get up close to the Serengeti's wildlife on a walking safari led by an experienced guide.
- Hot air balloon safari: Soar above the Serengeti plains on a hot air balloon and take in the spectacular views.
- Cultural tours: Learn about the local Maasai people and their culture on a guided tour.
How much is a Serengeti safari going to cost?
A safari in the Serengeti will cost anywhere between $ 250.00 and $ 2 000.00 per day.
This will depend on what sort of safari lodges, camps or resorts one is looking at staying in. This will also depend on other aspects, for example, private guides, private vehicles, light aircraft transfers vs road transfers, and let us not forget park and community fees.
Numerous factors can influence the cost of a safari; we always try to design a bespoke/tailor-made safari itinerary for all our clientele.
The best way forward is to always estimate what you would be happy spending; from that point, we can easily come up with a few itineraries from which one can choose.
How long does the Serengeti safari take?
The answer depends on a few factors, including what you want to see and do on your safari and one's time frame for the safari. Budgets can also play a big part in safari duration within the park.
If you're looking to see the Serengeti's famous wildlife and the wildebeest migration, you will need to allow at least a few days. A three-day safari is a popular option, but you can also choose to stay for longer.
We would recommend a stay of anywhere between three to ten days, which should be more than sufficient for most safari-goers.
If you have the time and budget, you can stay for three weeks or longer; this is entirely up to you. You can also combine with Kenya's Masai Mara and mighty Mara River crossings should you desire. There is a border post within the park for those who don't know, making it very easy to access the Masai Mara.
So, without further ado, our portfolio of the best safaris in the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania.
