With Only 12 Tented Suites, Toka Leya Is That Perfect Zambezi River Camp
Toka Leya Camp is hidden on the banks of the Zambezi River in the western sector of the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, about 12km upstream from Victoria Falls.
The Zambezi is a source of life for many creatures large and small. Hippo wallow in the shallows, while elephant, buffalo and other plains game come to drink.
Overlooking the mighty Zambezi and some of its islands is Toka Leya Camp, consisting of 12 spacious en-suite safari-style tented suites. Wooden walkways snake between the units and the main area, limiting their footprint on this pristine area.
The islands in front of the camp are intriguing and form part of the braided channel of the Zambezi River with several rapids, the main channel and dense vegetation.
The eastern side and main area of Toka Leya are under a shady canopy of Jackalberry, Knobthorn and Waterbury trees.
The western side is in a more open setting - an ancient baobab tree is a focal point and panoramic Zambezi vistas.
Toka Leya Camp's design blends in perfectly with the landscape. The camp was built using only local materials and skills, and all the wood used was sustainably sourced.
Rooms and Suites
Each of the twelve tented suites at Toka Leya Camp offers guests a unique and private Zambia safari holiday experience.
Measuring sixty square meters, the tented suites are spacious and comfortable, with cool wooden flooring, uncluttered African décor in earthy hues and expansive private wooden viewing decks from which to soak up the views of the River.
The en-suite bathrooms all have flush toilets, double vanities and a bathtub as well as a shower.
The tents are often visited by birdlife and occasionally by an elephant and hippo or two, making for a truly unique and memorable experience.
