Reserve Information
The famed Thornybush Game Reserve offers visitors one of South Africa's most exceptional bush experiences. Adjacent to the Kruger National Park, Thornybush comprises of 14 000 hectares of pristine wilderness that is teaming with wildlife and birdlife including the "Big 5".
Unspoilt nature and those stunning vistas of the surrounding African bushveld is what a safari here is all about, not forgetting the wildlife on show. Thornybush is up there with the best private reserves not only in South Africa but Southern Africa as a whole.
Rooms and Suites
Four luxury suites all with views out over the Monwana River offers guests air-conditioned comfort, an open fireplace, king-sized beds, private viewing deck and that all important outdoor shower.
One Presidential suite offers up two en-suite bedrooms, private pool, private viewing deck and a wait for it; a private Boma. The perfect setup for couples travelling together or families with older kids in tow
Shumbalala Lodge accommodates a maximum of eight people at any one go ensuring privacy and exclusivity for all guests.
Cuisine and Wine
Shumbalala's expert chef and kitchen team prepare delightful delicacies whether it be breakfast, lunch, high tea or dinner.
Meals are served either in the formal dining area within the central guest area of the lodge, outside next to a crackling fire in the boma or in private on the verandah of your suite.
The cuisine is accompanied by a good selection of South African wines and beers.
Lodge Facilities
The central guest area houses two lounges, a library and curio shop. The viewing decks are undoubtedly a highlight offers game viewing during the day and night.
A swimming pool will bring relief for those trying to escape the heat of summer.
Safari Activities
Game drives with experienced guides and tracker take place twice daily, the morning drive starts at the crack of dawn while the afternoon drive leaves in the late afternoon returning when the sun has set.
Should one in interested, game walks after breakfast/ brunch are tailored to suit one's interests and fitness levels. A great way not only to stretch your legs but also to experience all the knowledge that the Shangaan trackers one surrounding wildlife, birdlife, trees, plants, insects and local history and culture.

All guests staying within the Thornybush Game Reserve have access to the amazing Amani Spa at Thornybush Game Lodge. One merely has to speak to camp management were one is staying, they will book and transfer you to Game Lodge for a treatment and massage of your choice.
