Exploring The Lion Sands And Sabi Sands Wildlife When Visiting The Amazing River Lodge
Lion Sands River Lodge in the Lion Sands Reserve is in one of the finest wilderness areas (the World famous Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve) in the Southern Kruger National Park region.
Lion Sands River Lodge is the soul of the Lion Sands Game Reserve; the lodge is positioned on a site overlooking the Sabie River and Kruger National Park under 800-year-old trees.
The lodge experience is all about spirit, warmth, nature and relaxation.
Reserve Information
Within the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Lions Sands Game Reserve borders the Kruger National Park. It offers travellers some of the best wildlife and birdlife found in Africa.
The southern area of the Sabi Sand is home to the largest concentration of wild animal species in the Southern Hemisphere.
There are simply no words to explain the wildlife that can be seen in this region - to say amazing would be an understatement.
Rooms And Suites
Twenty suites are available at Lion Sands River Lodge, consisting of twelve luxury suites and eight superior suites, all offering fantastic views over the Sabie River and surrounding bushveld.
All luxury suites offer a private verandah, king-sized beds (draped in mosquito netting), air-conditioning and large en-suite bathrooms.
Superior suites offer more space and indoor and outdoor showers in addition to what luxury suites offer.
Cuisine And Wine
The culinary experience is unique, with all meals being prepared by the lodge's celebrated chef, with all ingredients ranging from zebra to crocodile (for the less adventurous, there is also a selection of international dishes).
Breakfasts and lunches are usually on the River Island Deck overlooking the Sabie River. Conversely, diners are served up in a few unique locations, including the open-air boma, out in the bush under the African stars or even on your private verandah.
An excellent selection of South African and international wines is also on offer.
Lodge Facilities
Exceptional public areas offer guests a space to sit back and relax and catch up on some news; the comfortable lounge and bar areas are the envy of surrounding lodges.
Other facilities at Lion Sands River Lodge include a magnificent viewing deck with views out over the Sabie River, two heated swimming pools, a wellness centre and a small gym.
Wi-Fi is available in all public areas within the lodge.
Safari Activities
Early morning and late afternoon/evening game drives are offered twice daily in open 4x4 safari vehicles.
Highly recommended are the Bush Walks with highly trained guides, your chance to get up close and personal with the local wildlife while learning all about the surrounding bushveld and history.
Private game drive vehicles are on offer should you require a safari vehicle all to yourself; specialist guides can also be requested should you require a birding expert, for example.
Family Friendly
Children over the age of 10 years are most welcome at Lion Sands River Lodge. Family suites with interleading rooms are available for children's activities, meals and babysitting options.
Spa And Wellness
Spa treatments and massages are available on-site and are best enjoyed between game drives. Treatments are available at the dedicated spa area or in the comfort of your suite.
In Conclusion
The Lion Sands River Lodge offers an unforgettable experience for those hoping to immerse themselves in the beauty of the African wilderness.
From luxury suites with breathtaking views to world-class cuisine and wine list to knowledgeable staff and guides.

Greater Kruger Family Safari
"How many more sleeps?” this became our son's wake-up call as the days neared his first ‘safari’ to the Greater Kruger National Park.
James and I had decided to combine a bit of family time with a quick update of the 'family friendly safari lodges' in the greater Kruger area.
My 4 Day Kruger Adventure
My 4-Day Kruger Adventure was one of the highlights of my travelling; having not visited the area for such a long time, the Kruger National Park was stunning.
Leaving Cape Town and flying north to OR Tambo and then a 5-hour drive to the Kruger from where we stayed in parks board accommodation.
