The look and feel of the interior of the safari tents are reminiscent of a bygone era in safari, with the natural environment enhanced in the decor and fixtures.
Traversing over 9000 hectares of supreme and diverse vegetation, Chisomo Safari Camp is home to the Big 5, as well as a wealth of other smaller creatures and bird species. Daily game drives with experienced guides and trackers will delight even the seasoned traveller.
Reserve Information
Located in the Limpopo Province, Karongwe Private Game Reserve overlooks the majestic Drakensberg Mountain Range. Nestled between 4 rivers, it is a sanctuary for wildlife which provides exceptional habitats for a diverse array of flora, fauna and prolific birdlife. The Makhutswi River runs through the reserve creating a unique biosphere; an untamed and tranquil Eden, rich in wildlife and timeless beauty.
The 21000 acres of land, gives way to the viewing of the sought after Big 5, in particular, the lush environment is one of the best locations to spot the most elusive, Leopard. With inspirational game drives and walking safaris, Karongwe Private Game Reserve is the perfect getaway for a safari and only 45 minutes for the Kruger National Park.
Rooms and Suites
Chisomo Safari Camp has 22 tented safari suites, all with bathroom en-suite (shower only), accommodating a maximum of 44 people. A limited number of rooms can be for triple accommodation.
The rooms are situated under the shade of towering Knobthorn and Jackalberry trees. Each one is beautifully decorated with crisp white linens and spacious lounges that offer guests the perfect opportunity to relax and absorb the splendid surroundings.
All beds have mosquito nets and rooms are equipped with tea/coffee stations, free-standing fan (heater fan for winter months), safe and hairdryers. 220 V. International Adaptors are also available in the drawer of the dressing table.
Cuisine and Wine
The team in the kitchen at Chisomo Safari Camp create flavoursome and wholesome meals in a Pan African Cuisine style. Meals are generally taken in the dining area of the main lodge but, weather dependent is also served in the popular traditional boma. By request, bush breakfasts or dinners can be arranged for groups.
To complement any meal, there is a selection of fine South African wines, imported beers, as well as an extensive selection of spirits and soft drinks.
Lodge Facilities
This main lodge at Chisomo Safari Camp offers plenty of spaces to retreat from the heat of the day or just sit and take in all that the natural environment has to offer. Beautifully decorated lounges with bar facilities allow guests to come together to chat over the daily activities and sightings. Guests may also relax at the pool with sun loungers and pool towels provided.
The Little Paws Centre for Children is full of fun interactive activities for the younger safari-goers. Activities include; hair braiding, face painting, tracker 101 course, cookie baking, clay making tracks, bubbles, board games, goodie bags and children's veggie garden.
Spa treatments are available on request while staying at Chisomo Safari Camp, the treatment facility offers the finest African plant extracts and traditional rituals.

WiFi is available for the convenience of all guests, but there is limited cell phone reception.
Safari Activities
With over 9000 hectares of the supreme African bush to traverse, the twice-daily game drives are conducted in open safari vehicles with qualified and knowledgeable guides. Each vehicle also has a local Shangaan tracker, who will share their vast experience of the African Bush and offer up opportunities to teach some of the traditional ways of the region.
The Karongwe Reserve is home to the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino and Elephant) as well as a variety of other diverse wildlife and over 365 different birds. Game drives allow for many photographic opportunities; from the views of the Lowveld from a “kopje” amid the lush vegetation to the huge variety of trees and flora.
Morning game drives commence after coffee/tea and rusks, as the sun rises and wildlife begins to move about to start their day. The afternoon game drive heads out after afternoon tea and will return as the sunsets and the nocturnal animals make their way out for the evening. Guests will be able to enjoy a sundowner while the sun sets over the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains.
On request and subject to availability of guides, guests have the opportunity to go on foot for a bushwalk. This is one of the best ways to experience the bushveld; get close to the smaller aspects of nature and truly feel the wonderment of the African bush.

Please note; children under 6 years are not permitted on any game activity unless approved by the Lodge Management onsite. No prior approval shall be given. (Children are required to be accompanied by an adult on Game activity). Children that are under aged will not be allowed on a game drive and securing a private vehicle will also not allow for this policy to be changed.
Spa and Wellness
Thera Naka Spa at Karongwe Reserve offers massages, facials, body exfoliation, body wrap, hand and foot ritual/treatments. Treatments on offer are subject to availability and can only be booked on arrival at the lodge.
