Introduction
The newest addition to the Karongwe Reserve, Becks Safari Lodge is carefully built around existing trees to ensure as small an impact footprint as possible. The lodge combines innovative design and luxury living with an absolute appreciation for the surrounding South African bushveld. The picturesque setting can be enjoyed from all angles of the main public areas and individual suites.
Local artists also play a significant role in the decor of the main lodge, with an impressive array of South African art being accumulated as a featured gallery wall. The owners' strong philosophies on community upliftment and environmental sustainability, coupled with a passionate and dedicated team of staff do not go unnoticed at Becks Safari Lodge.
Set in the 9000 hectares of the Karongwe Private Game Reserve, Becks Safari Lodge takes in all that the pristine African bush has to offer; a variety of breathtaking views, diverse landscapes and some of the best big five game-viewing opportunities in Southern Africa.
Reserve Information
Located in the Limpopo Province, Karongwe Private Game Reserve overlooks the majestic Drakensberg Mountain Range. Nestled between 4 rivers, it is a sanctuary for wildlife which provides exceptional habitats for a diverse array of flora, fauna and prolific birdlife. The Makhutswi River runs through the reserve creating a unique biosphere; an untamed and tranquil Eden, rich in wildlife and timeless beauty.
The 21000 acres of land, gives way to the viewing of the sought after Big 5, in particular, the lush environment is one of the best locations to spot the most elusive, Leopard. With inspirational game drives and walking safaris, Karongwe Private Game Reserve is the perfect getaway for a safari and only 45 minutes for the Kruger National Park.
Rooms and Suites
Becks Safari Lodge has the capacity to accommodate 20 guests in 10 luxury air-conditioned safari suites. Each suite has its own en-suite bathroom with amenities and both shower and bath, an outside shower is also featured.
Each suite has its own deck and boasts amazing views of either the Makhutswi River or the popular waterhole, this provides excellent game viewing possibilities. The spacious interiors are a calming palette of silver, charcoal and elephant grey. The interesting use of material combinations; locally sourced wood and steel, brick, metal and canvas, all allow for the high-impact design scheme aimed at bringing the outside in. All of these elements lend themselves to relaxation, rejuvenation and memorable experiences for each guest.

Cuisine and Wine
Gourmet plated meals are created by the team in the kitchen at Becks Safari Lodge; flavoursome and wholesome meals in a Pan African Cuisine style. Meals are generally taken in the dining area of the main lodge but, weather dependent is also served in the popular traditional boma. Individual dining in a romantic setting overlooking the Makhutswi River.
To complement any meal, there is a selection of fine South African wines, imported beers, as well as an extensive selection of spirits and soft drinks.
Lodge Facilities
The main building of the lodge overlooks the river bed and floodplains, the light and airy space is ideal for guest interactions. This openness flows out into the impressive deck and offers excellent views of the bushveld, as well as the outside fire pit for social gatherings. The main lounge area houses a fireplace for cooler evenings and a well-stocked bar. This is also the area for a special ‘gin tasting’ afternoon.
A highlight for many is the infinity pool; 20 meters of cool freshness against the heat of the African sun. Complete with sun loungers, umbrellas and pool towels this is one of the most popular spaces in the main building.
Spa treatments are available on request while staying at Becks Safari Lodge, the treatment facility offers the finest African plant extracts and traditional rituals.

Safari Activities
With over 9000 hectares of the supreme African bush to traverse, the twice-daily game drives are conducted in open safari vehicles with qualified and knowledgeable guides. Each vehicle also has a local Shangaan tracker, who will share their vast experience of the African Bush and offer up opportunities to teach some of the traditional ways of the region.
The Karongwe Reserve is home to the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino and Elephant) as well as a variety of other diverse wildlife and over 365 different birds. Game drives allow for many photographic opportunities; from the views of the Lowveld from a “kopje” amid the lush vegetation to the huge variety of trees and flora.
Morning game drives commence after coffee/tea and rusks, as the sun rises and wildlife begins to move about to start their day. The afternoon game drive heads out after afternoon tea and will return as the sunsets and the nocturnal animals make their way out for the evening. Guests will be able to enjoy a sundowner while the sun sets over the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains.
On request and subject to availability of guides, guests have the opportunity to go on foot for a bushwalk. This is one of the best ways to experience the bushveld; get close to the smaller aspects of nature and truly feel the wonderment of the African bush.
