Introduction
Cradled on the banks of the Great Olifants River, beneath towering fig and natal mahogany trees lies Ezulwini River Lodge. Ezulwini, meaning ‘place of paradise’, remains true to its name in the secretive construction of River Lodge, which is a bird-lovers utopia, and a wildlife wonderland for all of the Balule beasts.
Located in the Big 5 Balule Nature Reserve in a pristine region of Limpopo Province, offering a top class Kruger safari. The location of the reserve means that it shares unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park.
River Lodge is built on the banks of the Olifants River under a riverine forest of trees making bird watching easy!
Rooms and Suites
River Lodge has four standard rooms, which are traditional, thatched rondavels equipped with twin or double beds plus mosquito nets, bedside tables, and en-suite bathrooms, which have both bath and shower.
There are additionally three luxury suites, which have large wooden decks, plunge pools, and views of the river. Interiors are chic and spacious with lounge, coffee table and en-suite with bath, and indoor and outdoor shower.
All rooms have tea and coffee facilities, while luxury suites also have minibars.
Cuisine and Wine
Early morning coffee and rusks served before game drive, a hot brunch served outdoors after the morning game drive, lunch at 2 pm and high tea served before afternoon drive, while dinner is a feast served by lantern-light.
Lodge Facilities
River Lodge is centered around a superb outdoor guest area complete with a pool, shaded bar, outdoor lounge, and an indoor dining area.
A wooden walkway leads down to a viewing deck built around a tree and draped in leafy tree branches, all overlooking the riverbed and the Olifants River. A viewing tower at River Lodge offers a superb view over the reserve and a waterhole.
There is WiFi available at the lodge, while an array of photographic and nature books keep you inspired while you take in the birdsong and various other sounds of the Balule bushveld.
Safari Activities
The safari experience at Ezulwini is centred on twice daily game drives in the lush Balule Nature Reserve.
Boasting the ‘Big 7’, which is the Big 5 plus hippo and crocodile, and an abundance of birdlife and general game.

Greater Kruger Family Safari
"How many more sleeps?” this became our son's wake-up call as the days neared his first ‘safari’ to the Greater Kruger National Park.

My 4 Day Kruger Adventure
My 4-Day Kruger Adventure was one of the highlights of my travelling; having not visited the area for such a long time, the Kruger National Park was stunning.
Leaving Cape Town and flying north to OR Tambo and then a 5-hour drive to the Kruger from where we stayed in parks board accommodation.
