Malaria In Tanzania

Malaria In Tanzania

As a general rule of thumb, consider the whole of Tanzania a "high risk "malaria zone. We highly recommend that one does consult a doctor, pharmacist or travel clinic before travelling to this area, prophylaxis will be required when on safari.

Higher lying areas over 2000m including; Ngorongoro crater rim, Mt Kilimanjaro and parts of the Eastern Arc Mountains are in the "Low risk" bracket.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ONE MUST ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR, PHARMACIST, LOCAL MALARIA SPECIALIST BEFORE EMBARKING ON A HOLIDAY TO A MALARIA AREA - THE CONTENTS BELOW ARE DESIGNED TO BE A GUIDE ONLY - CONDITIONS DO CHANGE.

Have a look at our 'Malaria In Africa' page for more information on the disease.

Basic facts on malaria in Tanzania; 10-12 million people contract malaria a year in Tanzania, of which around 80 000 dies (source: Malariaspot.org - Tanzania/ ). Malaria is not a disease to be played with, get advice from your doctor or travel clinic, and follow their recommendations.
