The 12 beautiful chalets here at 12 beautiful Matemwe offer guests private verandas with hammock and sofa, amazingly comfortable beds with mosquito nets and large bathrooms with deep bathtubs and walk-in showers.
All chalets are decorated in local materials while surrounded by lush gardens and views out over the Indian Ocean.
6 triple-bed chalets are available for families, and 2 other these have their own private plunge pools.
All food is sourced locally keeping with the theme of supporting local communities.
Meals are of course traditional Zanzibari cuisine with a lot of seafood being par for the course. Gourmet-styled breakfasts, lunches and three-course dinners are the standard that other lodges judge themselves.
A must-do is the picnic lunch on the Muyuni beach or isolated sandbanks just off the coast.
Matemwe Lodge has a multi-level swimming pool surrounded by lounge chairs overlooking the ocean. Freshly mixed cocktails are served at the poolside bar.
