A Budget River Camp That Is Perfect For Those On A Self-Drive Safari To Namibia Chobe River Region
Chobe River Camp is a popular self-drive safari destination for those looking to experience the beauty of the African landscape while exploring the Zambezi Region of Namibia.
Situated on the Namibian side of the Chobe River, opposite Botswana's Chobe National Park, the camp offers stunning views of the river and its wildlife. Large herds of elephants, buffalo and antelope can often be seen from the camp, as well as a variety of birdlife.
The camp is environmentally conscious and provides guests with a unique opportunity to connect with nature.
More of a budget and entry-level safari camp option, more suited to those where a comfortable room for the night is a must, but the surrounding activities take precedence. The river camp is perfect for those who will be out doing things during the course of the day and returning only in the late afternoon for a shower, an excellent meal and a good night's sleep.
Rooms And Suites
Each of the twenty tented suites at Chobe River Camp offers beautiful views out over the river, the surrounding bushveld and into Botswana.
The tented suites are large and include a wooden verandah, a comfortable bed with mosquito netting, and an en-suite bathroom with a shower.
Cuisine And Wine
The cuisine is hearty and delicious, with both hot and cold options available at the buffet-style breakfasts and dinners. A small lunch menu is also available, which includes sandwiches, salads, and soup.
The camp provides ample wine offerings to enjoy with dinner, including red and white wines from South Africa, as well as beer and soft drinks.
Camp Facilities
The Chobe River Camp offers guests a variety of facilities to make their stay comfortable. These include a dining and bar area, a small lounge, as well as a double-volume viewing deck that offers excellent views of the river.
The camp also has a swimming pool, Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity, and secure parking.
However, one should note that charging facilities are only available in the central guest area and not in the rooms themselves.
Safari Activities
Chobe River Camp offers a variety of safari activities for guests to enjoy. Morning or late afternoon boat cruises offer excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, as does the guided walking trail.
For those who want to get a little closer to the animals, a canoe trip down the river is a great option, and bird-watching enthusiasts will love the excursion along the banks of the Chobe that is teaming with excellent sightings year-round.
Family Friendly
When staying at Chobe River Camp, families will have access to a variety of activities and facilities that are suitable for children of all ages. The camp is located in a malaria area, so it is important for families travelling with young children to take the necessary precautions. There are many meal options available at the camp, as well as family-friendly accommodation.
In Conclusion
Chobe River Camp is a great budget-friendly safari destination for those looking to explore the beauty of the African landscape.
The camp offers stunning views of the Chobe River and its wildlife, as well as a variety of activities for guests to enjoy.

The Road To Sossusvlei
Once one navigates the main Sesriem entrance gates and enters the national park a pleasant surprise awaits, a tarred road (yes, a tarred road) that extends all the way through to the main parking area near Sossusvlei.
Cape Town To The Kunene River
In November and December of last year (2019), we loaded our Jeep and headed north out of Cape Town, destination Namibia and the Kunene River, her border with Angola.
A couple of thousand kilometres later, we returned, this time, more in love with country than ever.
Windhoek Oktoberfest 2021
On the 25th and 26th of October, the Sports Klub Windhoek will host the 55th edition of the Oktoberfest. Over 5000 people are expected to attend (compared to 1000 in 2010).
Adding a certain local flavour will be the Namibian band Famaz Attak, and there will be long-established activities and games like archery and tree trunk sawing.
Top 5 restaurants in Windhoek
Continuing our series of dining in Africa, we look at Windhoek. More and more visitors are becoming aware of the unique attractions that this country as a safari destination has to offer.
Nowhere is too far to travel in this small (and clean) city of 330,000 but be warned when you go out to eat, vegetarianism is not common!
Best Places To Go In Namibia
The Uyaphi team has compiled a list of the "Best Places to go" which most safari itineraries would include. A different destination from most African safari destinations.
Instead of lush green forests or open savannas, the primary attraction being vast, open deserts interspersed with canyons, mountain ranges, and oasis.
Living With The Himba
In May 2012, we arranged for Uyaphi.Com client Ken Vine from Devon in England to stay with the traditional Himba people in two remote villages in the middle of Kaokoland.
He lived, slept, ate, conversed and photographed these Himba villagers.
