A Classic Large Hotel Experience In Swakopmund With The Namib Desert On The Doorstep
The Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre is a unique experience.
Built in and around the old Station Building, the Swakopmund Hotel combines architectural beauty with first-world comfort.
Swakopmund is Namibia's premier coastal resort. Swakopmund is known as Namibia's "doorway to the Namib Desert and Skeleton Coast," and the town is also only a short distance from the gorgeous dunes of Sossusvlei.
Where better to start exploring Namibia's unique desert landscape and culture and get far, far away from it all?
A unique feature of Namibia is its space. Incessant deserts stretch for miles to meet the most dramatic sunsets you can imagine.
This country, with its strong German influence, has a magnificent coastline speckled with charming little towns rich in history.
Rooms And Suites
The Swakopmund Hotel offers a variety of rooms and suites to its guests, all of which are elegantly furnished and provide all the necessary amenities.
All rooms have air-conditioning, television, tea/coffee making facilities, a bathroom with bath, shower and toilet, direct dial phones, electronic safes, electric razor plugs, fully stocked mini bars, hair dryers, eight-channel TV including a German channel and MNet.
Meals can be served in your room at certain times, and there is a 24-hour room service snack menu.
A few family rooms are available for those with children in tow.
Cuisine And Wine
Befitting its Victorian theme, dinner at the Platform One is a slightly ostentatious affair. Here you can choose the à la carte menu or a speciality buffet. Platform One also serves breakfast, lunch and light meals throughout the day.
Alternatively, you can opt for the Station Grill restaurant, next to the Mermaid Casino.
A catch of fresh line fish, shellfish, and other seafood are served straight from the Namibian waters.
Hotel Facilities
The Swakopmund Hotel offers guests a range of facilities to make their stay more enjoyable.
These include a large outdoor swimming pool with sun loungers and pool umbrellas, a cinema, shops and a fully equipped gym.
The hotel's casino is also a popular attraction, providing guests with the opportunity to try their luck at the tables or in the slots.
Safari Activities
The Namib Desert is one of the oldest deserts in the world and offers a wealth of activities for visitors. From the Swakopmund Hotel, you can explore the desert on safari tours, go quad biking or sand boarding, or take scenic flights to see the incredible landscapes from above.
All of these can be pre-booked with us or at reception on arrival.

The Road To Sossusvlei
Once one navigates the main Sesriem entrance gates and enters the national park a pleasant surprise awaits, a tarred road (yes, a tarred road) that extends all the way through to the main parking area near Sossusvlei.
Cape Town To The Kunene River
In November and December of last year (2019), we loaded our Jeep and headed north out of Cape Town, destination Namibia and the Kunene River, her border with Angola.
A couple of thousand kilometres later, we returned, this time, more in love with country than ever.
Windhoek Oktoberfest 2021
On the 25th and 26th of October, the Sports Klub Windhoek will host the 55th edition of the Oktoberfest. Over 5000 people are expected to attend (compared to 1000 in 2010).
Adding a certain local flavour will be the Namibian band Famaz Attak, and there will be long-established activities and games like archery and tree trunk sawing.
Top 5 restaurants in Windhoek
Continuing our series of dining in Africa, we look at Windhoek. More and more visitors are becoming aware of the unique attractions that this country as a safari destination has to offer.
Nowhere is too far to travel in this small (and clean) city of 330,000 but be warned when you go out to eat, vegetarianism is not common!
Best Places To Go In Namibia
The Uyaphi team has compiled a list of the "Best Places to go" which most safari itineraries would include. A different destination from most African safari destinations.
Instead of lush green forests or open savannas, the primary attraction being vast, open deserts interspersed with canyons, mountain ranges, and oasis.
Living With The Himba
In May 2012, we arranged for Uyaphi.Com client Ken Vine from Devon in England to stay with the traditional Himba people in two remote villages in the middle of Kaokoland.
He lived, slept, ate, conversed and photographed these Himba villagers.
