Little Governors Camp was built back in 1976. A camp that is accessed by crossing the Mara River by boat offers guests an exquisite and romantic setting surrounded by the wildlife and birdlife of the famed Masai Mara.
A small and intimate camp that casts its spell over all who visit, whether it be honeymooners, families, couples, celebrities and presidents alike. Little Governors is a special destination no matter the time of year.
From July to October, the surrounding Masai Mara plays host to one of the last great natural wonders of the world, the wildebeest and zebra migration between the Masai Mara and Serengeti.
Little Governors Camp is one of our favourite safari camps, and we have been selling the destination for over 20 years now, and our clients still love going back.
With just seventeen luxury tented suites all tucked away at the edge of a forest, all with private views out over the plains of the Masai Mara teeming with wildlife.
Each suite offers a veranda, king or twin bedding options with mosquito netting, an en-suite bathroom with shower, flushing toilet and hot and cold running water.
In keeping with safari tradition lighting is by gas and kerosene lanterns, or by candlelight.
Meals are of a superlative standard and is served outdoors during the day and in our candlelight dining tent by night. An excellent selection of wines, beers and spirits are available.
Later in the evening, it's time for chilled drinks and tall tales around the blazing campfire.
The central guest area is located with a large mess tent that offers up an open bar and dining area, all with views over the waterhole and plains of the Masai Mara and Oloololo Escarpment.
A small curio shop is open daily.
Covid-19 testing facilities are available in the camp.
There are various activities on offer: game drives in open vehicles, game walks or balloon flights over the wide plains of the Masai Mara. Balloon flights are optional and can be booked when in camp (or pre-booked should one require).
A balloon flight over the Masai Mara is highly recommended, one of those once in a lifetime safari activities.
Day excursions to Lake Victoria are also on offer; pre-booking this excursion before arrival is imperative.
Children of all ages are welcome and catered for when families are looking at staying at Little Governors Camp. As a side note, for families with younger children, Governors Camp is the better option as they are better suited for families.
Please note that this is a malaria area though.
Spa and wellness treatments are available at Governors Camp, a few minutes drive away. Bookings can be confirmed when in camp.
