Cottars 1920s Camp gives you the authentic feel of that unique era when the word 'safari' became indelibly imprinted on the imagination of the adventurer, past and modern. Extending an era of luxury and quality, Cottars Safari Service returns to the original spirit and essence of 'safari', reminiscent of a golden era - an era of romance, professional guiding, adventure and elegance.
This Masai Mara Luxury Camp is situated in an extensive and exclusive concession between the Masai Mara, Serengeti and Loliondo reserves where a few Purko Masai clan roam. The area has been untouched by any kind of tourism or development and offers the discerning client a guarantee of privacy.
Cottar’s Private House has a breathtaking view onto the savannah plains that carry the great annual wildebeest migration, and is set amidst a backdrop of the Olderikesi Hills. Guests can enjoy privately guided game drives, night game drives, bush walks, swimming and fishing.
Most importantly, while the Mara has a reputation of being over congested with mass tourism, Cottars 1920s Camp have kept the secret of the area for years - no hot air balloons flying overhead, no minibuses buzzing around, no nearby lodges or low flying aircraft to disturb your special moments.
The area is more akin to being in the expansive Serengeti National Park, but with the advantage of 'off the road' driving due to the very low vehicle density of the area, and the fact that we can walk and operate 'night drive' activities in our community concession.
Cottars 1920s Camp accommodates up to 16 guests in authentic, spacious white canvas tents. The camp has eight tents, each with a canopied verandah and carefully arranged to ensure privacy. Each tent is luxuriously furnished with safari antiques from the 1920's, private en-suite dressing rooms/ bathrooms, showers and flush toilets. The camp is equipped with a tented library/reading room and the cuisine and silver service is of the highest standard to be found in the bush.
Each tent has its own private butler.
Cottar’s Private Homestead is rented only on an exclusive basis, and comes with a dedicated staff of 8. The house is over 10,000 square feet in size, and features a large living room, dining room, a magnificent viewing deck, and 5 en-suite bedrooms, all with stunning views. The house has internet access throughout, satellite TV and DVD, and is powered with electric and solar energy. A dedicated game drive vehicle(s) and guide(s) are provided to guests throughout their stay.
For the discerning client, Cottar’s Private Homestead offers complete privacy, with a secure and secluded road leading to the house – perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in nature. A masseuse is available on a daily basis.
Meals are provided at the Camp and are served in the dining tent or an outdoor bush meal. Communal dinning is encouraged, however, Cottar’s Camp is happy to provide private dinning arrangements on request.
The cuisine along with quality service is of the highest standard and can cater to all dietary or allergy requirements.
The camp has two main mess tent areas for fine dining, drinking, reading and relaxing. An exciting new addition is an amazing pool and spa area where guests can relax after a game drive.
Guests can also enjoy a safari bath or safari shower, specifically set up in the savannah should they wish for a genuinely unique way of bathing!
Guest activities here at this famous Masai Mara Luxury Camp include game drives guided by professional guides in either state of the art modern four wheel drive cars, in authentic or old wooden car. Alternatively, a tented reading room with an extensive array of African and modern books and magazines will allow those who wish to merely while away an afternoon resting and viewing the most splendid panorama.
As the concession is outside the game parks, guided walks and night drives are allowed and highly recommended. By walking, guests can get that much closer to nature, and if an opportunity to track wild game presents itself, the trained trackers will take guests even closer still.
Family safaris are extremely important and the staff at Cottar's will take considerable time, care and attention to ensure it will be a holiday of a lifetime.
Cottar's will arrange early dinners and children’s menus. Special activities for the active older children (through our Maasai Warrior school programme) can also be organised. A nanny is available on request to baby sit when you are out for meals or activities.
On a more self-indulgent note, a masseuse is now be based full-time at the camp for complimentary massages, manicures and pedicures. Any other needs that guests may have will be met by butlers who have been trained to provide guests with discreet, yet attentive service.
