Botswana Mammal List
The list of mammals found in Botswana is simply surprising, considering that 70% of the country is covered by the Kalahari desert. It is in the Okavango and Chobe regions that wildlife flourishes on a scale rarely match on the continent.
With 164 mammal species having been recorded, ranging from the huge African elephant all the way down to the small elephant shrew. Of the 164 species found, only 12 of those make the critically endangered to the near-threatened list; this points to exceptionally good wildlife management on behalf of the Botswanan people and government.
We have only included 66 out of the 164 in the below list as these are the mammals one has the best chance of viewing; the other animals that have been left out are the smaller critters, for example; rodents, bats, and shrews that are all likely to go unnoticed.
