Kruger And Zimbabwe Expedition is an epic 9-day journey that takes in the best of South Africa and Zimbabwe's natural wonders. You'll explore Kruger National Park in South Africa, one of the continent's biggest and most diverse game reserves.
Marvel at its wildlife - lions, elephants, buffalo and more - and discover the beauty of this country.
Then you'll head to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, to look at some of Africa's most impressive scenery. If you are after a Zimbabwe safari that starts in Johannesburg, South Africa, then look no further.
Days 1-2: Kruger National Park
- Departing Johannesburg at 06:30 am we head in a north-easterly direction into the Kruger National Park.
- Numerous spots en route to stretch our legs and photograph the scenery around us.
- We visit the wild & seldom seen northern sections of the park from Satara to Pufuri.
- Early morning and afternoon game drives are par for the course over the next few days, with very good chances to spot lions, elephants, rhinos and other animals in this area.
- Overnight: Campsite.
Day 3: Great Zimbabwe Ruins
- An early start to the day.
- Entering Zimbabwe (through Beit Bridge), we travel to the town of Masvingo and onto the Great Zimbabwe Ruins.
- After arriving and setting up camp, we head off on foot to explore and photograph these magnificent Ruins.
- The ruins date back to the 11th to 14th Centuries and are some of the oldest and largest stone structures in Southern Africa.
- After dinner, we relax around a roaring campfire.
- Overnight: Campsite
Day 4: Matobo National Park
- From Masvingo, we head off to Bulawayo and the Matobo National Park in a westerly direction.
- After setting up camp just outside Matobo National Park, we get back in the vehicle to explore the park.
- On foot, we search out San Bushman rock paintings, followed by a visit to the gravesite of Cecil John Rhodes set high up on the granite koppies.
- There is also the chance of a guided walk in which we hope to get up-close and personal with a few of the rhinos within the park.
- Overnight: Campsite
Days 5-6: Hwange National Park
- After breakfast, we head north towards Hwange National Park and its wildlife.
- Hwange National Park is roughly 14 650 square kilometres in size and is famed for its wildlife in particular large herds of elephants.
- Our camp for the next few days is just outside the park's borders, in a private game management area.
- On day 6, a full day's drive within the park awaits; spectacular wildlife and birdlife are pointed out to us by our professional local guide.
- We also get the chance to stop and relax at a few hides along the way; sunsets in Hwange are hues of reds and oranges.
- Overnight: Campsite
Days 7-8: Victoria Falls
- Just a few hours after leaving Hwange, we reach Victoria Falls.
- Setting up camp is our first call, thereafter a quick briefing on activities and options available in the area.
