Fugitives Drift Lodge near Isandlwana and Rorkes' Drift is a must visit/stay destination for all those interested in the history of South Africa, The English Empire and the Zulu Nation.
One of the first destinations in South Africa to develop what is now known as "Heritage Tourism", a destination that has gone on in leaps and bounds and is now proudly at the top of the list for anyone who is even the slightest bit interested in history.
Daily tours to numerous Battlefields surrounding the lodge are on offer all guided by some of the best guides and storytellers found anywhere in South Africa. With their vast knowledge on these historic conflicts, a storyline develops that will have all enthralled and even a bit teary at times.
We cannot recommend Fugitives Drift highly enough, the place and experience is like no other.
As soon as we get the chance we will be visiting the Lodge to view first hand all the changes that have taken place and share some of the photographs. We are incredibly excited that one of our favourite lodges that we have visited on numerous occasions now has a new look and feel.
All suites offer private verandahs with panoramic views of the Buffalo River Gorge and out onto Isandlwana Mountain in the distance.
Ten spacious, luxurious and modern suites await all with en-suite bathroom facilities including bathtubs and outdoor showers and air-conditioning.
A note for all previous guests, as of 2017 fugitives Drift Lodge has been completely refurbished. And all for the better from all the reports we have been receiving.
The cuisine is superb; home styled meals with fresh, modern flavours whether it be lunch or dinner, breakfasts are more of an English / Continental affair.
The Hartford library is the perfect location for breakfasts and lunches whereas the new main dining room with a state of the art kitchen is where dinners are served. For previous guests, the old dining room is now a dedicated museum.
