Introduction
Ongava Tented Camp is situated along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park in the 30 000-hectare, privately owned Ongava Game Reserve. The small tented camp is built in a different sector of the reserve to Ongava Lodge.
Etosha National Park has good concentrations of Elephant, as well as all of Namibia's plains game including Springbok, Gemsbok, Wildebeest, and Zebra. The reserve offers guests the opportunity to view Black and White Rhino, and there is also a healthy Lion population and a large variety of plains game.
Rooms and Suites
Ongava Tented Camp, built of stone, canvas, and thatch, accommodates 16 guests in eight large comfortable Meru-style tents all with en-suite facilities, open-air showers, and private verandas. The family unit sleeps four. Activities at this comfortable camp typically take place around the central area with its relaxing bar and swimming pool fronting onto a much-frequented waterhole.
The bar and dining area of Ongava Tented Camp is built out of rock and thatch and has an intimate feel. Drinks and dinner can be enjoyed around the open air fireplace and swimming pool, both of which overlook a productive floodlit waterhole situated at eye level in front of the camp.
There is a family tent that sleeps four.

The main dining and lounge area is made from thatch and stone with a bar area and swimming pool nearby. This main area looks out over a waterhole teaming with wildlife.

Safari Activities
Etosha National Park is Namibia's premier wildlife destination, and at almost the size of Switzerland, it is certainly one of Africa's largest game parks. Large herds of plains game concentrate around the waterholes in the dry season, while the summer month's sporadic rainfall produces a profusion of life.
Ongava's proximity to Etosha allows for game drives that take in the plethora of game in the National Park and on the Ongava Reserve itself. Other possibilities include guided walks, birding and spending time in hides. An extraordinary encounter is white rhino tracking - Ongava holds one of the largest rhino custodianships for the Namibian government in the country and is one of the few private game reserves in southern Africa that give one the chance to see both black and white rhino.

The Road To Sossusvlei
Once one navigates the main Sesriem entrance gates and enters the national park a pleasant surprise awaits, a tarred road (yes, a tarred road) that extends all the way through to the main parking area near Sossusvlei.Cape Town To The Kunene River
In November and December of last year (2019), we loaded our Jeep and headed north out of Cape Town, destination Namibia and the Kunene River, her border with Angola. A couple of thousand kilometres later, we returned, this time, more in love with Namibia than ever.Windhoek Oktoberfest 2021
On the 25th and 26th of October, the Sports Klub Windhoek will host the 55th edition of the Oktoberfest. Over 5000 people are expected to attend (compared to 1000 in 2010). Adding a certain local flavour will be the Namibian band Famaz Attak, and there will be long-established activities and games like archery and tree trunk sawing.Top 5 restaurants in Windhoek
Continuing our series of dining in Africa, we look at the Namibian capital, Windhoek. More and more visitors are becoming aware of the unique attractions of Namibia as a safari destination. Nowhere is too far to travel in this small (and clean) city of 330,000 but be warned when you go out to eat, vegetarianism is not common!Best Places To Go In Namibia
The Uyaphi team has compiled a list of the "Best Places to go in Namibia" which most safari itineraries would include. Namibia is different from most African safari destinations. Instead of lush green forests or open savannas, the primary attraction of Namibia is vast, open deserts interspersed with canyons, mountain ranges, and oasis.Living With The Himba
In May 2012, we arranged for Uyaphi.Com client Ken Vine from Devon in England to stay with the traditional Himba people in two remote villages in the middle of Kaokoland, Namibia. He lived, slept, ate, conversed and photographed these Himba villagers.
