Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge offers an unparalleled safari experience. The entire Tsavo Lodge is raised on high stilts above watering holes and feeding pastures offering a spectacular view of the wildlife from above and all around.
The Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge is situated in the midst of the Taita Hills Sanctuary, a private wildlife conservancy of 28,000 acres at the foot of the Taita Hills bordering Tsavo West National Park, one of the world's largest game reserves. The Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge offers luxury accommodation and facilities and is the perfect place in an unforgettable setting to explore the natural environment around.
Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge is a truly unique concept consisting of 96 rooms elevated on stilts, each overlooking a waterhole and linked by suspended walkways.
All rooms are equipped with ensuite bathrooms with permanent showers and WC, running hot & cold water and 240V power. Rooms at the Lodge are on two levels with double, twin or triple beds depending on room type. All rooms have views of watering holes. The rooms are luxuriously furnished with well appointed bathrooms.
Dining at Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge is an elegant and intimate affair. The culinary journey is enhanced by well-appointed tables and a relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy excellent cooking in the light and airy dining area, or outside dining in the bush overlooking the Taita Hills flora and fauna. The elevated restaurant, and the bar a level higher, offer stunning views of the sanctuary and the ideal vantage points to view game as you enjoy your meal.
Bura Restaurant; This is the main restaurant, with a capacity of 150 people; it overlooks the watering holes, serving buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner with live cooking counters preparing specialty dishes. Cuisines include Pan-African, Pan-European and Pan-Asian. The salad buffet has a wide variety of salads using the freshest ingredients and herbs. The dessert buffet has a selection of mouthwatering desserts. Vegetarian dishes are always available, and guests with any special dietary requirements are also catered for.
The Vura Bar Lounge and adjoining shaded terrace above the Bura Restaurant provides spectacular views of the main waterhole and surrounding grasslands, and are ideal to relax and have your favourite cocktail or coffee while watching the wildlife below.
At night, the waterholes are floodlit ensuring that you enjoy an uninterrupted view of the numerous animals arriving to quench their thirst.
The elevated Restaurant and the Bar a level higher, also offer stunning views of the sanctuary and the ideal vantage points to view game. The Lodge has its own fleet of well equipped safari vehicles with excellent guides.
Game Viewing; Early morning and late afternoon game drives provide an ideal opportunity to view and photograph the diverse array of wildlife within the Sanctuary. The waterholes below provide a wonderful opportunity to view animals at close proximity in their natural habitat. The lobby and terrace bar offers excellent views and photographic opportunities, while an underground tunnel and bunker with ground-level windows provide unbelievably close yet safe access to a variety of animals as they drink.
Night Game Drives; Night game drives provide guests with an opportunity of seeing animals not usually encountered on a daytime game drive such as spotted and striped hyena, mongoose, jackal, civet, genet, porcupine and bush baby. Most predators are more active at night, so night drives also provide the opportunity of experiencing the 'circle of life'. Our highly trained rangers equipped with powerful spotlights take guests for this experience of a totally different world after dark, when you may have the thrilling opportunity to see a predator actively hunting.
Nature Walks; The Sanctuary offers many diverse opportunities for you to experience the unique flora, fauna and culture of this fascinating ecosystem. Take a nature walk with a qualified ranger guide, where the emphasis is on the natural environment you encounter as you walk leisurely through the bush.
Excursions; Visit a local and authentic village where you can learn about local cultures, spend a day at Mzima Springs in Tsavo West National Park, famous for its thriving populations of hippos and crocodiles, or visit Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary or Lake Jipe, both also in Tsavo West.
Alternatively, spend the day in Tsavo East National Park, where you can visit popular sites such as Aruba Dam and Lugards Falls, or make an excursion to the nearby Taita Hills, with spectacular views, indigenous forests and rural markets.
The region to the west of the Sanctuary is also rich in World War I history, while a crater lake near the Tanzanian border is a mere 60km away.
The Tulia wellness tent at Salt Lick Game Lodge is managed by trained massage therapists and a full menu of treatments is available including Swedish, aromatherapy and ayurverda.
