Porini Amboseli Camp is located within the private and almost exclusive Selenkay Conservancy that lies a few kilometres north of the famed Amboseli National Park.
The Selenkay Conservancy offers guests an authentic safari experience away from all the minibuses and tourists of the Amboseli eco system. If excellent guiding, fantastic wildlife sightings and an authentic safari experience are what you are looking for, look no further. Porini Amboseli is fantastic and comes highly recommended.
Wildlife that can be spotted and photographed includes; elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, Thompson's and Grant's gazelles, gerenuk, impala, oryx, lesser kudu, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, warthog, striped hyena, jackal, bat-eared fox, caracal, African wild cat, serval cat, genet cat, honey badger and mongoose.
Birdlife is prolific, especially birds of prey for those of us out there that enjoy birding as a hobby.
The camp also offers excellent game drives and night drives within Selenkay Conservancy in safari vehicles with open roofs, ideal for photography lovers. An experienced professional guide will ensure you take away memories of a lifetime.
Guests can also enjoy escorted walks with experienced local Maasai guides.
For those wanting to experience the culture of the area, Porini Amboseli Camp also offers a visit to a traditional Maasai village, complete with learning about their way of life and customs.
The 10 tented suites provide comfortable accommodation in spacious tents with en-suite bathrooms and private verandahs.
The recommended stay at Porini Amboseli Camp is 3-7 nights; longer stays are also available for an even deeper wildlife experience.
Porini Amboseli Camp offers a unique safari experience away from the crowds in one of East Africa’s most iconic and popular destinations.
Rooms and Suites
Porini Amboseli Camp offers guests just 10 large and authentic tented safari suites with private verandahs, twin/king-sized bedding and en-suite bathrooms(with a flush toilet, shower and wash basin).
The decor is more of a rustic affair but well suited for a safari camp of this nature.
Note: there are charging facilities in-room.
Cuisine and Wine
The cuisine is based on a set menu experience with hearty breakfasts, light lunches and three-course dinners; all served in and around the central guest area.
Porini Amboseli is a fully inclusive camp and includes all meals and local drinks (gin, vodka, wine, beer, sodas and mineral water).
Most dietary requirements are with advanced notice catered for.
Facilities
The central guest area is a basic yet functional affair; mess tent area offers guests an indoor dining area and a small lounge. Outdoors, a firepit awaits for those after-dinner stories.
The camp runs purely off solar energy, there are no electrical outlets in the guest tents whatsoever, and all battery charging for cameras and phones is done in the manager's office.
There are no permanent structures in the camp, and therefore no swimming pool, although there is a small gift shop.
Instead, Porini Amboseli offers guests as pure a safari experience as one can get in Africa.
Activities
Expert safari guides and trackers lead game drives in open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles; game drives are the main safari attraction when staying at Porini Amboseli Camp in the Selenkay Conservancy (one of the best wildlife conservancies in the area).
Morning, afternoon and full-day (with picnic lunch) game drives are available, as are night drives, as Porini Amboseli Camp is located in a private concession.
For those interested in stretching their legs, an escorted safari/cultural walk is an option during the course of the day.
In Conclusion
If you're looking for an authentic Amboseli National Park safari experience, look no further than Porini Amboseli Camp.
With just 10 suites, this camp offers a more intimate and personal experience than some of the larger safari lodges. The central guest area is basic but functional, and all meals are included in the price.
Game drives in the conservation area are the main attraction here, led by expert guides who will help you spot wildlife in their natural habitat. If you're interested in stretching your legs, an escorted cultural or bushwalking experience is also available.
