Located within the Mana Pools National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, John's Camp offers up an authentic safari experience
Nestled amongst canopies of Trichelia and Mahogany trees in a truly natural wilderness, John's is a breath of fresh air, a classic safari camp for those who want and need to escape the modern world.
With a maximum of 12 guests at any one time, John's is a small and intimate camp for honeymooners, couples and small groups of friends who want to experience the very best in wildlife and birdlife that Mana Pools National Park has to offer.
Game drives and in particular walking safaris are the highlights when staying here.
Six Meru styles tented suites each with comfortable bedding and en-suite bathroom facilities, including; flush loo and overhanging safari-style bucket shower (with hot water).
All suites are spaced out far enough to ensure privacy and offer fantastic views out over the floodplain, Zambezi River and Zambezi Escarpment in the distance.
As with all Robin Pope camps, exceptional cuisine is standard no matter whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner. The team in the kitchen are brilliant at what they do considering where the camp is located.
Most dietary requests are catered for, except for people with severe nut allergies.
There is not much to the central guest area, a lounge under canvas, indoor and outdoor ding areas and a fire pit, that is pretty much it. But this is the experience that people are after, a back to basic safari with little to no connection to the modern world.
A stay at John's is not about the camp, it is about where one is, what one can see, smell and hear, what one can photograph and experience, this is what it is all about.
There is no WiFi or cell phone reception at all, although there are numerous charging stations for devices.
The most popular way of seeing and experiencing the incredible wildlife and birdlife surrounding the camp is by either game drives or walking safaris. All activities are led by professional and experienced safari guides and trackers.
