Onguma Bush Camp is spectacularly situated within the private Onguma Game Reserve, bordering the famed Etosha National Park. Its prime location, right next to the main Namatoni gate, makes it without a doubt one of the best destinations for self-drivers eager to enter the National Park at the crack of dawn.
The camp offers a variety of accommodation types to suit different budgets. We had the pleasure of staying in the "Deluxe Waterhole Room," which was nothing short of magnificent. It provided glorious, uninterrupted views of the bushveld—we were treated to the sight of zebra and impala grazing not more than five metres away. The room itself was exceptionally spacious, with comfortable twin beds and a perfectly sized bathroom. I was absolutely delighted with my accommodation; I could not have asked for more.
The dining experience was excellent. Both dinners and breakfasts were superb, served in a dining area with an atmosphere and views that are simply breathtaking. The area overlooks a bustling waterhole, frequented by an abundance of wildlife and offering fantastic birding sightings (not to mention the resident fish and terrapins).
The central guest area is wonderfully spacious, offering panoramic views over the waterhole and into the surrounding bushveld. Just off to the side, a pristine swimming pool area provides the perfect escape from the summer heat. For those needing to stay connected, WiFi is readily available throughout this main area.
Can we recommend a stay at Onguma Bush Camp? Yes, and that would be a very big YES. We would suggest at least a three-night stay to experience all that the Eastern Etosha region has to offer. The perfect Etosha Lodge? We would say, not far off.
