Kolmanskop Photos
Images and photographs of Kolmanskop, a ghost town located within a five minute derive from the coastal town of Luderitz.
The wealth that Kolmanskop generated through diamond mining was extraordinary, at one point the town consisted of a hospital (with an x-ray -station in the southern hemisphere), theatre and sport-hall, casino, ballroom, electrical power station, school, bowling alley, ice factory and the first tram line in Africa. Most of these were imported directly from Germany at a considerable cost. Now all this is a ghost town.
When visiting the southern regions of Namibia including the Fish River Canyon and Luderitz, a short one or two visit to Kolmanskop is recommended. We would also suggest a guided tour when visiting, tours are conducted in either English and German, although they are only held at set times.
Highlights:
- History of the Town
- How rich the town was back in the day
- How the desert has reclaimed the buildings
- Five minutes from Luderitz
