Paperbark Bush Retreat provides eco-friendly luxury in one of the most magnificent areas of unspoilt bush in South Africa.

This outstanding 327 hectare estate lies at the heart of the secluded hidden valley, with indigenous game, waterfalls, mountain streams and pools. The views are simply splendid across the ever-changing bush and along the peaks of the mountain range, creating a tranquil haven where guests can relax and rejuvenate.

The Paperbark Bush Retreat was developed in 2006/2007 and is located within the Leutla Conservancy.


ROOM & SUITE TYPES:

Accommodation comprises of comfortable spacious rooms designed with a mix of African and colonial styles, situated in a main lodge and bungalows surrounding a central lawn. Each is uniquely designed and inspired by the magnificence of its surroundings, decorated in organic colours and naturally woven fabric, creating an echo-chic ambience.

Main Lodge

Northern Suite: Two bedrooms with shower room occupying the Northern Wing of the Main Lodge with splendid views. Decorated with locally sourced material, ideal for family groups.
Double Room: Large bedroom, sleeping maximum of four, with an en-suite bathroom, tastefully appointed with locally made furniture and decorated in a neuvo-African style.

Wild Fig Bungalow

Traditionally the honeymoon suite, this luxurious bungalow has a double bedroom, bathroom with both shower and bath and large sitting room. Beautifully appointed with rich textures and a colonial style with log fire and original artefacts from Africa. Private stoep, ideal for willing away from those balmy sunny days.

Bush Willow Bungalow

This unique bungalow offers spacious accommodation again richly decorated in an African theme. Comprising one twin and one double bedroom either side of a sitting room with small kitchen and shower room. It also has its own private stoep. Frequently visited by the resident Dyker, stay quiet and you should enjoy an early morning visit from this most timid of antelope, grazing the lawn outside your bedroom window.

Sweet Thorn Bungalow

A comfortable, cosy, well appointed bungalow with twin beds, sitting area, en-suite bathroom with slipper bath and separate shower cubicle.  Step through the rear doors to a sun patio and private walled garden with magnificent views of the mountains.  The stoep to the front offers excellent views across the lawn to the Paperbark tree and mountains beyond.

FOOD & WINE:

Paperbark prides itself on sincere hospitality, sumptuous homestyle cuisine and friendly attentive service. Sip Sundowners as the sun sets behind the nearby Leutla Mountain and enjoy the tranquility of the African bush.

Dine under a canopy of stars as you enjoy the Euro-African cuisine in a rustic outside lapa or on alternate evenings, in the delightful dining room. The unique open plan lapa together with blazing log fires creates an ambience that will not be easily forgotten.
