The lodge, situated in one of South Africa's most remote and beautiful regions, is known for its fabulous home cooking, welcoming atmosphere and nearby hiking trails. Old Joe's is ideally situated as a 'getaway' or 'stepping stone' to the splendours of Mpumalanga/Lowveld (less than 3 hours from Gauteng/Johannesburg International Airport and close to the game parks). Decorated in African Colonial style with vibrant colours. The homestead with its verandah overlooking the valley, offers a feeling of total tranquility. ROOM & SUITE TYPES: Accommodating a maximum of 28, Old Joe's offers a choice of log cabins, rondavels or "Kaia " rooms each with full bath room and balcony and decorated with innovation and style. There are 5 log cabins: 4 that are double bedded and 1 that is twin bedded. The log cabins are elevated on stilts and are individually situated around the gardens. There are 5 rondavels: 2 that are double bedded, 1 that is twin bedded with an extra single bed, 2 that are double bedded with an extra small single bed. The rondavels are situated in the gardens. There are 4 Kaia rooms: 2 that are double bedded, 2 that are twin bedded. The Kaia rooms are four adjoining rooms each with a seperate entrance and balcony (all very private and sound proof). FOOD & WINE: Old Joe's Kaia has always been well-known for its excellent cuisine and fabulous wines. Our meals are creative yet wholesome with a country flair. Trout from the area is a regular feature, as well as venison and ostrich. Meals can be enjoyed inside the cosy lounge-dining area or outside on the balcony at tree-top level. The view from the balcony is graced by the mountain in the distance and the lush garden below. Many interesting birds can be observed from here. FACILITIES/ACTIVITIES: For the somewhat more energetic there are games of boulle, croquet, and a variety of walking trails - from a gentle stroll down to the banks of the Crocodile River to exhilirating hikes - following the river up the valley or climbing the mountain. |
