Ol Tukai Lodge is one of the best spots in the world to watch elephant with the backdrop of Africa's highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Writers have described Ol Tukai and the surrounding Amboseli National Park 'as a home for the Gods'. A place of rugged beauty, abundant water, lush grass and forest, set like an oasis in surrounding savannah scrub. To crown it all, the Gods look upon one of the worlds most awe-inspiring sites - as dawn breaks and the sun sets from the 19,000 foot snow capped dome of Africa's highest mountain.

Lodge is a high-class tourist resort situated in the heart of the Amboseli National Park, which is one of East Africa's most fascinating wildlife and nature parks. The lodge has eighty guest bedrooms and was opened in April 1996. The property has received overwhelming response from the international and local tourism market.

ROOM & SUITE TYPES:

There are 80 luxury chalet-style twin rooms at Ol Tukai Lodge, all with an uninterrupted view of the wetlands or Kilimanjaro.

Stylish and comfortable, the rooms are built from gum trees, local river stone and slate. All rooms have private bathrooms and individual terraces. To accommodate physically challenged guests, two rooms have been designed according to EU standards.

For the executive traveller, the exclusive Kibo Villa is also available, a self-contained log cabin with three luxurious ensuite rooms, roof terrace and Jacuzzi.

FOOD & WINE:

The dining room features an intricately designed sisal tapestry by a local artist, depicting the Maasai people. Just meters from elephants and other game that venture close to the boundary, the dining room opens onto a veranda in the garden where lunch is usually served.

The pool bar serves snacks and drinks between meal times. Our pool waiters are pleased to assist you, and our barman can make you a special fruitpunch while you soak up the sun.

The Elephant Bar is situated between the lounge and dining room. This open-air bar serves a wide selection of beers, cocktails, liqueurs and fresh fruit juices, and above the bar a roof level deck offers a splendid panorama of the marshlands and Kilimanjaro.

FACILITIES:

Before your afternoon game drive, why not take a cooling swim or lounge by the pool on a sun-bed in the shade of the acacias.

Board games such as Scrabble, Monopoly, cards and many other games are available from reception.

ACTIVITIES:

Game drives; Vehicles can be booked for game drives through Nairobi Office or directly at the lodge.

Maasai dancing; A troupe of Maasai Moran warriors will entertain you with traditional songs and dances after dinner at about 9.15pm, on alternate evenings.

Bird walks; Ol Tukai is home to 400 species of beautiful African birds. Enjoy the short bird walk that starts at the entrance of the hotel and rambles under the canopy of acacia trees around the lodge. A must for any fledgling ornithologist!

Lectures; Lecturers from Elephant Research regularly give interesting, informative lectures at the Lodge.
