Gibb's Farm built in 1929, is ideally located halfway between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, near the village of Karatu, the perfect upmarket boutique lodge for those looking for a little bit of everything when exploring this area of Tanzania.

It is here in the peaceful East African sanctuary that is Gibb's where a sense of well-being and tranquillity combines with deep-rooted African cultures, all surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

The farm is a truly amazing destination with beautiful people, views, and cuisine; this is one of our most popular destinations and for very good reason. There are few that can come close to offering what this place does - as simple as that.

With its 19 cottages, Gibb's offers guests an opportunity to immerse themselves in this cultural adventure as well as experience some exciting activities rarely found elsewhere.

Activities offered at Gibb's are varied and exciting, from a farm walk to learn about the sustainable agriculture practised on-site to an indigenous medicinal walk with local experts or perhaps a guided tour of Karatu town and we have not even touched on a safari to the famed Ngorongoro Crater.

Rooms and Suites

At Gibb's Farm, 19 rustic and gracious cottages await guests, each one unique in its very own decor.

Twin queens sized beds, fireplace, en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers and private verandas. Two bed-roomed cottages are available for those travelling with families in tow.

Our personal favourite cottage is the one known as "Shamba House", just simply the best views and privacy.

Cuisine and Wine

Gibb's Farm's organic fruit and vegetable garden provides the ingredients needed for the three daily healthy and fresh home-cooked meals. The dining areas with wooden ceilings, high glass windows and traditional farmhouse styles offer travellers culinary delights with majestic distant views.

Start your day with a cup of freshly roasted Gibb's Farm coffee and a continental or full English breakfast. A farm-style buffet lunch with bread, soups, a selection of savoury meat and vegetable pies, quiches, fresh salads, and not forgetting a few traditional African dishes.

Dinner time is all about delicious farm-to-table organic cuisine as you dine by candlelight and share the day’s adventures.

Guests may also enjoy a full bar featuring speciality cocktails and extensive wine and beer lists.

Facilities

The main farmhouse and guest area offer cosy living rooms with wooden ceiling boards, beams, traditional red-polished floors and a large welcoming open fireplace. This is the area where one can relax in comfort with good conversation and a drink in hand.

All treatments range between 45 and 75 minutes in length; a honeymoon option is available with a couple’s massage and a private romantic dinner.
