Tintswalo Summer House: An Eclectic Restored Villa at Glencairn Beach, Between Muizenberg and Simon's Town
We spent a morning at Tintswalo Summer House in June 2026, and it is a property we are genuinely fond of — provided you understand what you are booking. This is not a view hotel. The views are across a small parking area before reaching Glencairn Beach, and if you have just come from Tintswalo Boulders up the road, you will notice the difference immediately. We would rather tell you that now than have you discover it on arrival. If views are your priority, our Tintswalo Boulders photo gallery showcases the sister property perched above the penguin colony, where almost every room looks out over the magnificent False Bay. If the view is what you are after above all else, our Tintswalo Boulders photo gallery covers the sister property above the penguin colony, where every room in the house looks out over False Bay.
Tintswalo Summer House is a restored villa with genuinely characterful, eclectic décor — no two rooms alike, and all the better for it. Fresh flowers are arranged throughout, changed often and beautifully done. The coffee, and we do not say this lightly, is among the best we have had at any Cape Town property. The staff were excellent — attentive without hovering.
We did not eat on this visit, though we have dined here before. The food was very good indeed — expensive, but accomplished, and the kitchen clearly knows what to do with local produce.
The location is the quiet triumph of this place. Glencairn sits between Muizenberg and Simon's Town, putting Boulders Beach, Kalk Bay harbour and Cape Point all within easy reach, while you stay somewhere most visitors drive straight past. Beach walks are two minutes from the front door, and the property lends itself particularly well to being taken privately by a small group.
For honeymooners and romantics, we would recommend it without hesitation. Two things to note before booking: the villa sits close to the road, so there is more traffic noise than you might expect, though the walls and windows do a solid job of containing most of it. At the time of our visit, new rooms / houses were also being built above the property, overlooking the pool area. The eclectic décor will not suit every guest — tell us your taste and we will point you to the right room.
All photographs were taken by us at Uyaphi.com to give you an honest look at this Glencairn property.
