| Aptly named Kwa Maritane "Place of the Rock" the Resort is overlooked by a magnificent rocky outcrop in the heart of the 55 000-hectare Pilanesberg National Park. Kwa Maritane Lodge is designed in a true African getaway only 90 minutes drive from Pretoria or Gauteng. The park is Malaria free and is a natural ecosystem that developed hundreds and thousands of years ago in an eroded volcano that is more than 1000 million years old. Also available in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve is Bakubung Bush Lodge and Tshukudu Bush Lodge. The area has a varying and fascinating combination of geology, landscape and rainfall, which created different patterns of vegetation - wide, open grasslands, steep hillslopes, rocky outcrops and thickly wooded gorges. Because of this range of habitat vegetation, there is a wide diversity of animal species, from the Big Five to 30 other large mammals. 350 bird species, 65 reptiles and thousands of other interesting smaller animals.
