The Stunning Ruckomechi In The Mana Pools National Park, A Classic Safari Camp Overlooking The Zambezi
Classic safari camp located on the edge of the Mana Pools National Park in a private concession (the western boundary, to be exact) on the banks of the Zambezi River. Ruckomechi is famed for wildlife sightings from the main viewing decks; it almost feels like there is no point to going on a game drive as the wildlife comes to you. This is not a bad thing; trust us on that.
Both wildlife and birdlife are excellent, as are the safari activities and the views from the camp. In other words, Ruckomechi is one of the best options for those seeking out a Lower Zambezi safari experience.
Mana Pools National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Of interest, the mountains on the Zambian side of the Zambezi are part of Africa's Great Rift Valley Escarpment.
NOTE: The camp is open seasonally between April and mid/late November - depending on the rains. The perfect addition to any and all Zimbabwe safari options out there.
Rooms and Suites
Ten tented safari suites (including two family options) lie on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River with views out over the river and into Zambia. All suites are en-suite with his and her hand basins and shower, and large bedrooms lead out onto private decking.
The suite amenities at Ruckomechi camp are top-notch and sure to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Each suite features electrical outlets, a fan, laundry service, mosquito nets, and a safe. You will also enjoy complimentary tea and coffee service.
A star bed option is available, but this does need to be booked well in advance of ones' stay.
Cuisine and Wine
Excellent and hearty meals are produced by a very skilled team in the Ruckomechi no matter the time of day from only the freshest ingredients. The cuisine and wine selection are as one would expect from a Wilderness Safaris camp, and that is up there with the best in Southern Africa.
Special dietary requests are catered for, although advance notice is required to prepare (please advise when booking).
Facilities
The central guest area at Ruckomechi is under canvas and offers guests views of the Zambezi River and Valley from almost every vantage point.
The safari camp offers up a small lounge and a library area that leads out onto a shaded wooden viewing deck; a small infinity pool is available with deck chairs and great views.
An indoor dining room and outdoor dining area are where one will enjoy a meal and a glass of wine. A fire pit and stargazing deck are available for those evenings out under the African stars.
Activities
Ruckomechi Camp offers a variety of game viewing activities for guests to enjoy all within the famed Mana Pools National Park and on the Zambezi River.
These include early morning and afternoon game drives, night game drives, river cruises, canoeing excursions, fishing excursions (Tiger fishing on a catch and release basis), and guided bush and nature walks (walking safaris).
Ruckomechi is located in the Mana Pool National Park, which is known for its large population of elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, wild dog, hippo, Nile crocodile and other plains game. Guests can experience incredible wildlife and bird sightings while exploring the park's vast landscape.
Child Friendly
