When to visit Zambia:
Zambia is an all year round destination. However there are certain seasons for special interest groups to take note of:
- For Victoria Falls adventure enthusiasts, white water rafting is most exciting when the Zambezi waters are low, generally from August to December (although rafting is cancelled when the water levels are to low or high)
- Best wildlife months are May to September, minimum rainfall forces the wildlife to the main watering holes, the bushveld is dry i.e. grass is short, trees are not have as dense a foliage as they would normally have in summer
- Best botanical enthusiasts December - May when the vegetation is lush and green, and also when most plants are in flower.
The most practical items to pack are: remembering that Zimbabwe is a warm destination
» Light cotton tops and cotton trousers/shorts in summer, hat/ cap and light shoes
» Long-sleeved blouses/shirts for game drives/ boat cruises, which will protect you from mosquitoes and the sun
» Safari trousers, jeans or casual pants for evenings and cooler days. A fleece or sweater is required for those cool winter evening and mornings
» A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen (a tanning lotion and a high factor sunscreen for your face, neck, feet and hands
» Sandals, open shoes
» Comfortable walking shoes, sandals for when swimming in the Victoria Falls
» Camera film, extra memory cards and batteries, these are difficult to find in Zimbabwe outside of city centre's and should they be available they will cost you a arm and a leg. Remember it is not recommended to process film in Outside of South Africa or your home country rather trust your holidays photos to your photo lab you trust
