Uganda Primate Safari
SAFARI HIGHLIGHTS:
Uganda Primate Safari and Gorilla Trekking is an eight day safaris from Entebbe, visiting the Mountain Gorillas in Uganda or Rwanda, plus game viewing and bird-watching in Queen Elizabeth National Park, including a boat cruise. Quality local hotels and lodges are used throughout, and transport is by customised 4x4 vehicle. INCLUDED is also a day-time excursion to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary on Lake Victoria where orphaned chimpanzees have been relocated. Viewing of these chimpanzees is excellent, offering good photographic opportunities. By visiting Ngamba Island, you are directly assisting the funding of this worthy project.

DAY 1: LAKE VICTORIA HOTEL
» You will be met on arrival at Entebbe Airport to start your Uganda Primate Safari, and transferred to the Lake Victoria Hotel for the start of your safari
» Hotel - Breakfast
DAY 2: LAKE BUNYONI
» After breakfast, you will drive to the west of Uganda, along mountain roads to either Bwindi or Parc National des Volcans, Rwanda Gorilla sanctuary - depending on where permits are held
» Overnight in en-suite chalet/ lodge accommodation, all meals included. It will be a fairly long day in the vehicle, passing some interesting scenery, farmland and lush green hillsides
» Hotel - (Dinner, Lunch and Breakfast)
DAY 3 : MOUNTAIN GORILLAS - GORILLA TREKKING
» An early morning trek into the forest on the slopes of the volcanoes, led by experienced trackers will bring you amongst a family of Mountain Gorillas
» These massive primates are extremely rare, only 600 remaining. You will get within metres of the family, and be privileged to spend time amongst them
» Returning to the camp for a late lunch, we have an opportunity for forest walks with the guides, or just to relax. Overnight Bwindi or Kabale/ Rwanda/ Kisoro
» The Gorilla trekking may be fairly strenuous; up to six hours or longer is not uncommon - at relatively high altitude
» Mountain Gorillas are wild animals, as such sightings cannot be guaranteed, however the success rate is well over 90%
» Lodge - (Dinner, Lunch and Breakfast)
DAY 4: KABALE AREA
» Further trekking opportunity should permits be available, or the option of a forest walk to look for birds and other primates, or just relax in this beautiful area
» Later in the day drive to Kabale a small town in the highlands. The road to Kabale takes you into the Uganda Highlands - the Switzerland of Africa - with great views and vistas of this lush green area
» Overnight hotel - White Horse Inn or Far Out Camp, located on an island in the middle of Lake Bunyoni
» Hotel - (Dinner, Lunch and Breakfast)
DAYS 5,6: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
» Drive from Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth National Park, via the Ishasha or via the scenic highland route
» Within these two days we will go on a boat cruise on the Kasinga Channel, famous for hippos and bird life, and trek chimps in the Chamburu gorge (subject to permits being available and group size)
» Early morning and late afternoon game viewing/ drives will also be conducted in search of Uganda's unique wildlife such as the Giant Forest Hog, Red Forest Buffalo and Ugandan Kob, and lion, elephant and leopard are often seen
» Overnights at the luxurious Mweya Lodge/ Jacana Lodge
» Lodge - (Dinner, Lunch and Breakfast)
DAY 7: LAKE VICTORIA HOTEL
» Morning game drive out of the park
» Drive from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Entebbe, where you'll overnight at the luxurious Lake Victoria Hotel
» Hotel - Breakfast
DAY 8: CHIMPANZEE - END OF TRIP
» Half-day trip to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Reserve on Lake Victoria, where over 20 orphaned chimpanzees have been relocated under the management of a group of dedicated conservationists including the Jane Goodall Institute
» Depending on flights this may be done on day of arrival
» Transfer to the airport for your onward flight, or optional add-on
» Breakfast only
