DAY 1: ARUSHA
» Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport on Ethiopian Airlines at 12:40
» You’ll be met by your professional safari guide and driver, and taken to your hotel or lodge in Arusha, Tanzania, where you may rest or explore the town
» After lunch, you will be briefed by your safari guide on what you can expect over the next few days
» (Breakfast, Picnic Lunch and Dinner)
» Accommodation: Mount Meru Game Lodge

DAY 2: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
» After breakfast, you will head to beautiful Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive and a picnic lunch
» Lake Manyara is a beautiful park with a variety of eco-systems
» There is a ground water forest, soda lake and dry savannah area to name a few
» The park hosts hundreds of elephant along with giraffe, baboon, several species of monkeys and a myriad of birds
» You may be fortunate enough to see the resident lions resting up in a tree
» Towards evening, head to E Unoto Maasai Retreat, with gracious views of the hippos swimming in Lake Miwaleni, and where your bungalow is designed in a Maasai-inspired style

DAY 3: LAKE NATRON
» After an early start, depart with your guide in your safari equipped 4WD vehicle for the Lake Natron area, you will have the option to visit Engaruka Ruins
» Lake Natron is best known for its stunning landscape, set under the conical Ol Donyo Lengai live volcano and for being the lake which is the only breeding ground for lesser flamingos in Northern Tanzania
» Check into Lake Natron Tented Camp in time for lunch, and then spend the afternoon enjoying some of the great activities available in this area
» You can walk up the Natron Valley, to the source of the Ngare Sero River, or take a swim in waterfall pools, or walk along the lake shore birding and enjoying the superlative views
» Enjoy an early dinner and retire to bed - you have a VERY early start tomorrow!
» Note: Ol Donyo Lengai Climb is included in the price of this itinerary, so other activities are extra for climbers, but one activity is covered for those that do not climb. Extra costs are:- River Source walk = US$20, Waterfalls Walk = US$10 and Lake Side walk = US$15

DAY 4: LAKE NATRON
» Option: Rise at midnight for a starlight adventure. This evening you will climb the Maasai’s sacred mountain, Ol Donyo Lengai. Arrive at the summit in time for a stunning sunrise, and picnic breakfast
» Ascend the mountain and enjoy a well-earned lunch back at Lake Natron Tented Camp
» Afterwards, take a restful afternoon’s game drive to your explorer style, tented camp
» The initial part is along the base of the Rift Valley before climbing over 600m using 16 hairpin bends to the top of the cliff from which one can see over 180 degrees
» The whole of Lake Natron, Mt Gelai and Ol Donyo Lengai lie stretched out before you
» You will then game drive across the concession area until you reach the camp in the Serengeti ecosystem at Salei
» (For those who do not wish to climb, you can enjoy a guided walk to the source of Ngare Sero River, to the nearby waterfall, or along the lake – or relax in the waterfall pools)
» You will have the opportunity to see the legendary Maasai herdsmen going about their daily business and visit a genuine, traditional Boma (the thorn-surrounded enclosures where they live) and learn about this fascinating and ancient culture
» Salei Camp shelters under acacia trees on the banks of the Ol Karien sand river and faces, across the short grass Salei Plain, the imposing cone of Ol Donyo Lengai and the Ngorongoro Crater Highlands while to the back of the camp rise the cliffs of the Gol Mountains

» Accommodation: Serengeti Savannah Camp

DAY 5: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
» After breakfast this morning, you are in for quite an adventure
» Your guide will take you walking up the Sanjan River to another area of the Serengeti
» The Sanjan is a vitally important water source for the resident Maasai, and the water in this area also brings the huge herds of the Great Migration, in season
» The fertile volcanoic ash produces mineral rich grass needed by the wildebeest, particularly those preparing to give birth to their calves
» The Sanjan cuts through the Gol Mountains and so you will pass either above or beneath the towering cliffs which are the nesting places for eagles, vultures and buzzards
» The exact route will depend upon the water level in the river
» The higher route is the Maasai cattle track which they use to move their herds to higher pasture
» You will be met by your vehicle with a picnic lunch and later game drive across the rolling short grass plains until you reach Nasera Rock and turn down into a pass, Angata Kiti, through the Gol Mountains and then along the short grass Salei Plain back to camp, for another evening in your tented camp

» Accommodation: Serengeti Savannah Camp

DAY 6: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
» After an early start, make your way across the Southern Serengeti Plains with a stop at the Kopje, rock outcrop, at Naabi to enter the Serengeti National Park itself
» You will game drive all the way until you reach Seronera and eat lunch at the interesting and informative Visitor Centre
» You will then game drive the riverine system in search of predators and their prey!
» In the late afternoon, you will make your way to your tented camp in Ikoma for dinner and overnight

» Accommodation: Serengeti Savannah Camp

DAY 7: NGORONGORO CRATER
» After an early start, make your way to the Southern Serengeti Plains with a stop at the interesting and informative museum at Oldupai Gorge
» The gorge is the site of years of research into the anthropology of early man by the famous Leakey family and prominent universities
» Later this morning, if you have not seen one at Salei Camp, there is a second opportunity to visit a Maasai “boma”, at extra cost
» After a picnic lunch, you will spend an afternoon game driving in world heritage listed Ngorongoro Crater
» The crater is home to all of the larger African mammals with the exception of giraffe (they can’t cope with the steep descent)
» Here is one of the few remaining places it’s possible to encounter the highly endangered black rhino
» It is also possible to see elephant (mostly lone or “bachelor” bulls, contented prides of lion, hippo, a resident herd of wildebeest, zebra, various gazelles, impala, baboon and much more
» This evening, you will ascend the Rift Valley Wall to stay at a Lodge on a coffee plantation on the edge of the Ngorongoro Highlands Forest
» You will enjoy some of the best food in Tanzania, and serene garden ambience

» Accommodation: Bougainvillea Safari Lodge or similar

DAY 8: END OF SAFARI
» After a hearty breakfast, your guide will drive you to Arusha Airport, by 11:30, for your connecting flight
