Yellow Fever Vaccination Requirements:
If traveling from an infected area and > 1 year of age.
The Ministry of Health in Zanzibar has warned that following a severe outbreak of yellow fever in northern Uganda, all visitors to Zanzibar, not just previously designated countries, are advised to ensure that they have valid vaccination certificates before travel.
* Certificates NOT needed for direct European arrivals.
Yellow Fever. Information & Regulations from the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare; Tanzania
1. All guests/visitors arriving from Non Endemic Yellow Fever zone(s) will not be required to show a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate on their arrival to Tanzania.
2. All guests/visitors en route to Tanzania, who have passed through an Endemic Yellow Fever zone(s) BUT did not leave that country's airport, will be treated as above (1) above.
3. All guests/visitors en route to Tanzania, who have passed through an Endemic Yellow Fever zone(s) and have left the airport of that endemic country, will be required to show yellow fever certificates on their arrival in Tanzania. Otherwise they will be require a vaccination at the entry point of arrival in Tanzania
4. All guests from Endemic Yellow Fever zone(s) will be treated as those in (3) above
5. All guests/visitors travelling from the Tanzania mainland to Zanzibar will not be required to show their yellow fever vaccination certificate as Zanzibar is inside the United Republic of Tanzania
Note: The same regulations now apply to those flying directly to Zanzibar
Malaria Area of Risk:
Malaria is found in all areas, except for altitudes over 1800 m (5906 ft)

Anthropod Borne Diseases:
Arthropod-borne diseases such as Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, malaria, plague, relapsing fever, Rift Valley fever, tick-bite fever, and typhus (mainly tickborne) have been reported from most of this area. However, except for malaria (chloroquine resistant) in certain areas, they are not likely to be major health problems for the traveler. African sleeping sickness (African trypanosomiasis) can occur. Various forms of filariasis, leishmaniasis, and tungiasis (skin penetration by larva of the female sand flea) may be found in some areas of Kenya.
Foodborne and Waterborne Diseases:
Foodborne and waterborne diseases are common in some areas, particularly amebiasis and typhoid fever. Hepatitis A occurs in this area. Schistosomiasis is endemic in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe.
Other Diseases:
Other diseases: The southern African countries are on the verge of becoming poliomyelitis-free, and risk of contacting poliovirus is now low. Hepatitis B is hyperendemic. Rabies can be a hazard in some areas.
Other Hazards:
Other hazards include snake bites.
