The words "Tena Tena" mean "temporary home" in the local language, and for many people this exclusive camp is their very own safari nirvana. The amazing setting of the camp, perched on the banks of the Luangwa River under a grove of mahogany trees, is the reason some guests return regularly to Tena Tena Camp. And no doubt the fabulous game-watching opportunities provide an added thrill. However, guests are unanimous in their praise of one thing - the superb individual service and warm hospitality offered by the team at Tena Tena. ROOM & SUITE TYPES: Stylish and intimate, Tena Tena has just five large luxury tents pitched along the edge of a water hole. Inside, the tents are spacious and decorated in rich tones from Arabia. The Persian rugs, hand-dyed Indian cotton bedspreads and Bedouin cushions create a simple, homely feel. Walk through the tent and you will find a private dressing room that leads into a unique open-air bathroom with separate toilet, shower and sink. The shower overlooks the water hole, so you can shower in the mornings while watching elephants drinking 30 yards away - an incredible experience! It is even possible to view game from the comfort of your bed with the side of the tent rolled up. Or you can sit quietly on your verandah, sipping a cool drink, watching families of warthogs wallowing in the mud and elephants munching on the winterthorn pods. FOOD & WINE: The camp enjoys a perfect setting, shaded beneath a grove of mahogany trees. Under one of the trees is a simple bar area. Other trees provide shade for al-fresco dining. You can also sit in comfortable armchairs and sofas positioned along the banks of the Luangwa River and enjoy long afternoons of lazy game viewing and bird watching.
