| Mosaic Farm is as rich in history as it is in plant and animal life. Journey back to 1857, when the land baron Duncan McFarlane registered as the first plot owner in the village of Stanford. Within several years he purchased all the land around the Hermanus Lagoon and along the Klein River.
In 1892, Duncan's granddaughter, Henrietta and her husband Jack Poole, built an enormous stacked-stone manor house on part of that land which is now Mosaic Farm. This house came to be known as the "Spookhuis" and is a local landmark and legend in South African history. Mosaic Farm is a place to unwind and be renewed. A touch of heaven on earth coloured by wildflowers of fynbos, breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over the lagoon, ancient milkwood thickets and the majestic Overberg Mountains. MOSAIC FARM ROOM & SUITE TYPES: Lagoon Lodge: Woven into an ancient milkwood grove on the lagoon edge, our full-service lodge provides ultimate privacy and service for only ten guests. Built with safari-style thatch, canvas and limestone, each chalet has luxurious beds under netting, a large romantic tub, private outdoor shower and wooden deck with exquisite mountain and lagoon views. Day or night, unwind in the spa pool overlooking a bird sanctuary with the lagoon and mountains as a spectacular backdrop. Duminy Cottage: Surrounded by milkwood trees, fynbos gardens, and abundant bird life, the Duminy Cottage is in the activity area by the Spookhuis. Make yourself at home with beautiful natural finishes, stone mosaics and granite counters. Enjoy magnificent mountain and lagoon views from our double volume living/dining/kitchen space and large upper deck. Relax in front of the wood burning stove, outdoor braai or on the two stoeps. This is a self-catering option. Duminchie Cottage: Surrounded by milkwood trees, fynbos gardens, and abundant bird life, the Duminchie Cottage is in the activity area by the Spookhuis. This quaint one-bedroom cottage is one of the original stone farm buildings and has been fully renovated. It is equipped with an efficiency kitchen, dining area, fireplace, children's sleeping loft and covered patio. It shares the same magnificent mountain and lagoon views. This is a self-catering option. FOOD & WINE: Meals are available at the Lagoon Lodge (subject to availability and additional cost for Duminy and Duminchie Cottage guests). Delectable meals and drinks are served by a fireplace that will warm your soul. Compliment your meal with an award winning wine from the Cape.
