Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge
'A Madikwe Safari lodge situated in the heart of the richly diverse Madikwe Game Reserve, one of South Africa's biggest wildlife sanctuaries'
|
|
Madikwe Game Reserve is one of the few malaria-free reserves in southern Africa. Located in South Africa along the Botswana border and 20 kilometres from Gaberone, the Reserve lies within a transition region between lowveld bushveld and the Kalahari thornveld. As a result, the region is host to an incredible diversity of species from both ecosystems. Geographically the region has enormous volcanic intrusions known as Inselbergs, which are prominent throughout the reserve and create a spectacular backdrop.
Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge is the first wholly-owned, Community-based Safari Lodge to be developed in South Africa. The concept is unique in South Africa as the community owns the development, with substantial benefits accruing back to the community itself.
The Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge is situated on the Tweedepoort Ridge overlooking the plains and inselbergs of the western section of Madikwe Game Reserve, which is one of the few malaria-free reserves in Southern Africa and is host to an incredible diversity of species.
The main lodge is spectacularly located on two tiers of the ridge, accessed via a wooden bridge that crosses a ravine surrounded by rock figs. Each of the living areas has its own character, mood and style providing guests with a choice of breathtaking views and tranquil spaces.
ROOM & SUITE TYPES:
The lodge has 8 suites, each with its own viewing deck, decorated in natural hues of colour and texture, offering a very private and luxurious experience. The thatched suites, with sliding doors from each room and shower, allow the guest to experience a oneness with the bushveld.
FOOD & WINE:
The dining room at the lodge serves delicious local cuisine.
FACILITIES/ACTIVITIES:
Madikwe Game Reserve is home to a tremendous diversity of fauna and flora, including both the black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog. The lodge is a superb open vehicle safari destination where guests are accompanied by well-trained and informative rangers who are able to interpret the many encounters whilst on safari.
While staying here at Buffalo Ridge, take in the opportunity to visit the Lekgophung community; where clients may be given a chance to meet the Kgosi (chief) and learn about the ethnic heritage, cultures and ancestral history of the local people. A tour of the Legkophung community may include a visit to the tannery and a chance to purchase the leather products that are available as well as a visit to the traditional kraal. The atmosphere in the community is welcoming and enthusiastic and it really is a wonderful experience.
