Peering through one teakwood door at Hartford House, you face a Colonial world. Opening another, the distant sounds of an ancient people at work lilt across the silent landscape, a country of great space, spectacular mountains and big skies. This place commands a headland between the world of traditional cultures and the splendid style of our settler forebears.
This is the world of heroic battles, serene mountain passes, of Arts and Crafts, famous Schools and Colleges, where the age-old pastimes of trout-fishing, tennis and golf are practised in the traditional manner.
Hartford House, one of the Country's most beautiful houses, was home to the family of Natal's last Prime Minister and is situated on the Land's most famous Stud farm.
ROOM & SUITE TYPES:
Renowned for its fourteen incomparably-styled luxury suites with underfloor heating, heated towel rails and generous bathrooms. All suites are uniquely decorated with a fusion of colour, style and texture and are equipped with a telephone, TV (with M-Net and satellite channels) and a mini bar.
FOOD & WINE:
This is a passionate place, and any meal at Hartford House reflects our obsession. There is little value in living in one of the world's most bounteous environs without taking advantage of all that it offers. We have yet to taste lovelier chicken than Stonehavens; the beef, lamb and game ranks with the best anywhere; you'll spend an age finding finer cheese; our vegetables and herbs are superb, we have renowned producers of pork and parma ham. For eight consecutive years, we've had "Platinum" emblazoned on our wine list. Local is lekker. Absolutely.
Dinner is a spectacular five course affair, served in candlelit splendour, either in our historic dining room or on our rambling colonial veranda. Saturdays are accompanied by the best traditional dance display in Africa. You have to see it to believe it.
Breakfasts are celebrations of the creative spirit, individual masterpieces inspired by the freshest local produce. Authenticity and originality are hallmarks of everything Hartford represents.
Lunch menus are purposely light and seasonal, providing a respite for the gap between breakfast and dinner. To satisfy non-resident visitors, the weekend menu includes additional options.
SPA FACILITIES:
The Hartford House Spa offers a welcoming retreat for all those seeking rest, relaxation and pampering. Choose from an impressive range of spa treatments available at this wellness spa in KwaZulu-Natal. Enjoy holistic massages, therapeutic body treatments and revitalizing facials.
ACTIVITIES:
Here you have the option of age-old pastimes of trout-fishing, tennis and golf as practised in the traditional manner. Witness the preparation of champion race horses. Horse-back rides are arranged for the experienced, a game conservancy offers 7000-acres of wildlife to explore on foot and any number of options in the countryside, known as the Midlands Meander are well worth exploring.
