Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse looks forward to welcoming you to the Drakensberg Mountains for that true country house experience.
With the crisp winter mornings, roaring log fires and beautiful sunny days of winter approaching us again, what more could one wish for than a couple of days at Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse for a romantic gourmet getaway in the Drakensberg Mountains.
ROOM & SUITE TYPES:
All rooms have TV, separate bath, separate shower and en-suite WC with heated towel rails, beds are fitted with cotton sheets, mohair blankets and heated under blankets. Tea & coffee with homemade biscuits are available in all the rooms. Attention to detail is evident.
FOOD & WINE:
Passion and dedication are the keywords in the Cleopatra kitchen - Richards speciality is sauces, a subject very close to his heart. He has long been obsessed with reduction techniques - which allow the full intense flavour of the food to shine through.
Fresh ingredients are essential, and being able to pick from the gardens minutes before serving is a real pleasure. For the more exotic tastes, Richard spends hours hunting down local and imported ingredients of the highest quality - flying in fresh salmon from Norway and procuring genuine Parma hams and cheeses from Italy.
FACILITIES:
The lounge and dinning room of Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse are cantilevered over a trout-filled dam, which looks across the water to the stunning mountains. An underground wine cellar - well stocked with South African premier wines.
ACTIVITIES:
The Kamberg is fast becoming one of South Africa's top fishing areas. At Cleopatra, the Little Mooi river runs through the property and it is stocked with brown trout. There are also many private dams & rivers available to our guests, for fishing along with Highmoor (trophy fish) & Kamberg Nature Reserve.
Birding in this area is excellent as we have several different habitats. The Vulture Restaurant at Giants Castle is spectacular but has to be booked well in advance. Hiking and climbing in the Berg is extremely popular and guests may take marked trails or wander at will across the beautiful mountains. Expert guides can also be arranged to take guests on their walks.
