Kwandwe Uplands House in the Malaria-free Kwandwe Reserve in South Africa's Eastern Cape is an easy drive from Port Elizabeth, making it the perfect for inclusion in an itinerary covering Cape Town and the Garden Route.
Kwandwe Reserve benefits from the magnificent landscapes characteristic of the area. It lies in an undulating basin, bordered by classic Eastern Cape hill country to the north and south.
The perennial Fish River divides the property and provides a generous water supply for the reserve. A flourishing ecosystem, which includes rare and endangered species, is based on rich alluvial soils, riverine vegetation and Thornveld, grassland and Bushveld.
ROOM & SUITE TYPES:
Uplands House, is a lovingly restored 1905 farmhouse, which has three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, private balconies and can accommodate a group or family of six. Completely secluded and surrounded only by the African bush, Uplands House boasts a full size swimming pool and gazebo and is perfect for small conferences or those who want to completely get away from it all. A private butler, ranger and chef are there to ensure a comfortable and memorable stay.
FOOD & WINE:
Uplands House has its own chef, who will create delicious, mouthwatering Pan-African meals and local specialties for you.
FACILITIES/ACTIVITIES:
Kwandwe Game Reserve exceptional wildlife will delight even experienced safari travelers. Mammal species will ultimately include the "big five" (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) as well as diverse birdlife. Leopard, rhino, hippo, giraffe, kudu, eland, waterbuck, zebra, springbok and impala all range freely through the reserve. Stay includes Twice-daily game drives.
The area is a paradise for bird-watchers. Kwandwe means "Place of the Blue Crane" in Xhosa, and the reserve is home to a permanent population of these graceful birds. Birdlife on the reserve reflects an impressive mix of over 200 recorded species and includes a generous number of rare species.
