Experience Luxury in the Heart of the Zambian Bush at Mchenja Camp
Mchenja, meaning "ebony", occupies a stunning setting beneath a magnificent grove of these trees on the banks of the Luangwa River and South Luangwa National Park. It is just a short morning's walk upstream from Kakuli Bush Camp and is in an area teeming with wildlife.
Although Mchenja Camp takes luxury in the bush to a level not previously seen in Zambia, it is a bush camp designed to combine excellently with our other more rustic locations.
As a luxury bush camp, Mchenja Camp is the perfect destination to complete a walking safari that has combined camps. Alternatively, those guests seeking a little more comfort and pampering may choose to combine a longer stay here, with a number of nights at the main lodge.
Rooms And Suites
Moving seamlessly from the breathtaking river views to accommodation that whispers luxury with an adventurous twist, the suites at Mchenja Camp promise an immersive experience like no other.
Each suite, a masterful blend of elegance and wilderness charm, invites guests to indulge in the serenity of the Luangwa Valley. Picture waking up to the soft, first light of dawn, casting a golden hue over your private patio, the air rich with the chorus of the wild.
The suites, spacious and thoughtfully appointed, feature plush furnishings and an open-air bath area, offering a unique opportunity to soak under the stars.
Cuisine And Wine
The cuisine at Mchenja Camp is an adventure for the palate, a delightful exploration of flavours that marry local ingredients with international culinary techniques. Imagine dining under the African sky, where each meal is more than just nourishment; it's a moment to savour, a memory in the making.
Chefs at Mchenja Camp artfully craft dishes that tell a story, a tribute to the rich, vibrant traditions of the land around you. From succulent meats cooked over an open flame to fresh, colourful salads and heartwarming soups, each bite is a discovery.
And for the cherry on top, the wine selection is impeccable, with bottles carefully chosen to complement the adventurous spirit of the cuisine.
Facilities
Nestled deep within the heart of Zambia's pristine Luangwa Valley, Mchenja Camp offers an oasis of comfort and adventure to the wandering soul.
Mchenja Camp, a true gem in the wild, boasts not just scenery that'll take your breath away, but facilities that blend rustic charm with a touch of luxury. The lounge, constructed around a majestic ebony tree, serves as the heart of camp life. Here, guests can unwind, share stories of their day’s adventures or simply immerse themselves in a good book, all whilst enjoying refreshing drinks from our well-stocked bar.
Fancy a splash? The small plunge pool offers a delightful escape from the African heat, perfect for a lazy afternoon dip while spotting wildlife from the comfort of the camp.
Activities
Set off at dawn in an open-top vehicle, the cool air tingling your skin as you venture into the awakening bush. Expert guides with eyes like hawks and knowledge as deep as the Luangwa River itself will lead you to breathtaking encounters with wildlife - from majestic elephants bathing in the river to the elusive leopard stalking its prey.
For those who crave an even closer connection with nature, the guided walking safaris are a must. Each step on the earth's raw soil is an opportunity to learn, as your guide shares insights about tracking animals, the medicinal uses of plants, and the intricate balance of ecosystems. It's an adventure that exhilarates the senses, educates the mind and nourishes the soul.
And when the African night sky unfolds in a blanket of stars, gather around the campfire for tales of the wild. It's here, amidst the crackle of firewood and the distant calls of nocturnal creatures, that the heart of Africa whispers to your soul.
