Tulbagh Hotel Photo Gallery

This is a rather embarrassing admission, this was my first ever visit to the town of Tulbagh having lived in South Africa all my life. I have driven past the place numerous times on the way to Ceres, Cederberg, Tankwa Karoo and Baine's Kloof Pass etc etc etc but never ever have I turned off the main road and driven into Tulbagh. Boy oh boy am I regretting that.

In a nutshell, Tulbagh is hands down my new favorite Winelands town.

I arrived at The Tulbagh Boutique Hotel without even as much as looking at their website and I am glad I did. I had absolutely no preconceived idea of what the place was about, what it looked like or even where it was located. This was a new destination and I wanted to experience a new place without the internet spoiling it.

Firstly The Tulbagh is split into two, each side being opposite each other split by the main road. The main part of the hotel is were one finds check-in, the bar, restaurant, main swimming pool and a few rooms, on the other side of the road more rooms, a courtyard and a small pool all within a historic building.

The suites and rooms are very nicely laid-out with a luxurious blend of decor and old school charm. My personal taste would be to stay on the side of the road in the historic building, it was quieter and that courtyard was the perfect spot to sit back and relax. If you are spending a few nights here I would suggest the honeymoon suite due to its size, fireplace, and bath tub, the suite is just perfect in my opinion.

Whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner, the restaurant at the Tulbagh offers up some seriously good food. Try the pizza's, or streak and my personal favorite was the venison pie.

And lastly, the staff are amazingly friendly, always smiling and importantly always seemed to be there when I needed them yet not constantly on top of me the whole time - the perfect blend.

CON; if I were to get picky, the restaurant and bar decor seemed out of place (old would sum it up the best), but on saying that the food was delicious. So a CON but not really.
