Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens was the first Botanic Garden in the World to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. When in Cape Town make sure that you schedule at least half a day for walking these amazing gardens.

On offer are perfectly manicured lawns, 7000 plant species and pathways that take one on a journey through a floral kingdom like no other. Do not miss our three favorite gardens - the Fragrance Garden, the Medicinal Garden and the Water-wise Garden also not to be missed is the "Tree Canopy Walkway".

One can also walk from Kirstenbosch up through Skeleton Gorge and onto the top of Table Mountain and end up at the Cable-way, this is a tough old walk and is only recommended for those of reasonable fitness.

The below photos of Kirstenbosch Gardens were all taken within the grounds of the World destination, one of Cape Town's top attractions and quite possibly one of the finest botanical gardens in the World.

There is nothing quite like wondering the paths of Kirstenbosch with DSLR and macro lens in hand, the flora, views and the back-drop with Table Mountain is simply amazing. Honestly, we have taken well over 2500 images of which most of them are close-ups/ macros of flowers.

Even if one is not interested in photography, half a day here is inspiring as one gets just a small glimpse into what makes the Cape Floral Kingdom so spectacular.

Pros; The amazing views of Table Mountain, Botanical Heaven, Numerous walks (all mapped).
Cons; Busy over summer, Sun moves behind Table Mountain rather early.

Ticket prices are as follows (as of April 2016);
Open all year round
Adult - R55.00
Child (6 - 17 years) - R15.00
Child under 6 - Free

Kirstenbosch is open 365 days a year from 08h00 to 19h00 (18h00 in winter). Guided tours run from either 10h00 or 14h00 daily, if one feels like walking the gardens by yourself please pick up a map at the front gates.

All photographs have been taken by us here at with the sole purpose of showcasing Cape Town and her attractions, scenery and beauty from our point of view.
