Blue Nile FallsAbout a 60 minute drive from Bahir Dar on a really bad road one comes across a village, from here after a 25 minute walk and a short boat ride over the Blue Nile River one finally arrives at the famed Blue Nile Falls.
Depending on the amount of water flowing over the falls depends on how close you can get. When we went it was the start of the rainy season so we where able to get right to the bottom of the falls, this would not be possible at peak flow.
The height of the falls is around the 40 metre mark and in full flood they can span almost 700 metres. In full flood I reckon these falls could compete with many of the more famous water falls in Africa.
The only down side to your little venture was the constant begging by the locals to buy stuff, it almost got to a point were it spoilt the day.
For those interested in birding, bring your big lenses with. The birdlife is simply amazing along the banks of this river.
